Republican presidential contender Jeb Bush called Donald Trump's candidacy a "phenomenon," and said his outspoken rival has "appealed to people's anger" as he has skyrocketed to the top of the polls.
"I was surprised that Donald Trump has surged. I think he's captured the deep frustration that people feel," Bush told NBC News' Lester Holt in an exclusive interview on Friday.
Trump who kicked off his campaign with controversial comments accusing Mexico of sending its rapists and murderers to the U.S. has a large lead over the GOP presidential field, a Quinnipiac poll released Thursday showed.
"I get the lack of rule of law, the sanctuary cities, the open borders," the former Florida governor said. "He's, in a very graphic way, appealed to people's anger about those things. And I think it's important to be respectful of that. Make the case that we can fix these things. And over time, the Trump phenomenon will either succeed or fail based on his proposals."

Bush added that he had no qualms about going head-to-head with Trump or any other Republican candidates including his protege, Marco Rubio in presidential debates.
"I'm a big boy," he said. "I'll be showing up with my big boy pants on."

Oblivious. Bush out of touch in his own liberal/RINO world.
“... showing up with my big boy pants on”
Jeb tries to do his “Unknown Politician” skit by wearing his pants on his head.
Trump’s surge needs to be incorporated into Common Care, Yeb....
Trump’s surge needs to be incorporated into Common Core, Yeb....
Jeb doesn't even get (or maybe he doesn't care) that he is doing the very thing right there that has made the base so angry. The constant meaningless vanilla lip service to the "concerns" of the base and then after the election, the big blowoff. The politicians were given huge landslide victories, a mandate to take it to the system, and they did nothing.
“Make the case that we can fix these things. And over time, the Trump phenomenon will either succeed or fail based on his proposals.”
Yeah, right. How long have we heard there will be a fence built? How many times have we paid for a fence? Yes, Jeb, and over time, if you DON’T fix those things, we get even more angry with your BS excuses!
“”I’m a big boy,” he said. “I’ll be showing up with my big boy pants on.”
A born leader!!
Hey Bushy, while you are fixing the open border problem by giving all the criminals citizenship, fix all the babies you paid to have ripped apart.
29 seconds... You must type faster, lol
If Trump’s supporters are motivated by (justified) anger, then Jeb’s supporters (ARE there any?) are motivated by racism and greed. They’re either Latinos who want more ethnic power, or else they’re greedy business owners wanting cheap labor.
“I’m a big boy,” he said. “I’ll be showing up with my big boy pants on.”
Say it in Spanish, bitch.
It’s not only phenomenal, it’s rocking the professional politician’s world.
This is a 10.5 on the political the Richter scale.
How about telling Donald to have an adult conversation with American people
Well said!!!
To be honest, we don’t need any more debates, endless conversations or banter about what has been happening to America for decades. We’ve been doing that for decades. Year in year out.
It’s time to elect someone that will actually do something and shake up this very corrupt government.
Pantalones Gigantes!
“Appeals to people’s HOPES.” Fixed.
Jeb needs to figure out who is making us angry.
A “phenomenon” that is fueled directly by the peculiar tone-deafness of other major candidates for the nomination and election to the office of the President of the United States (if such an office still exists).
“You’re not hearing me!” and “You’re not listening!” are cries that have not been heeded after the 2014 election in every corner of the land, when it was thought that some shred of decency and rationality had been restored when the Democrats were banished to the minority in both the House and Senate. But no, we keep on getting surrender after surrender, with only a few strong voices being sent up to the leadership of the supposedly “conservative” Republican legislative majority.
If you truly want to be a leader, here are “Da Rools”.
I. Find a parade that looks like it is going somewhere, and hurry get around in front of it.
II. Step off smartly and with confidence, assuring those behind you that you will take them to their intended destination.
III. From time to time, glance over your shoulder to make sure there is still somebody behind you. If not, or the parade is dwindling, quickly correct your course and get back to the head of the parade.
