I believe he was stupid enough to trust his guide about the legality of it. If that is proved to be wrong, he should face charges. Yep. Palmer is either stupid, or an actual criminal. The lion was evidently lured out of the preserve by use of an animal carcass. If Palmer knew that, he is obviously a criminal. if not, IMHO he's just stupid
It is worth noting that Palmer was convicted previously in the US for shooting a bear on protected property, then lying about it.

It is also worth noting that, most of the time, a criminal's previous record is not a permissible subject for courtroom argument or discussion.
