Oklahoma Political Group Apologizes for Facebook Post (Republican Women)

An Oklahoma political group is apologizing for making a reference to lynching.

The post was made on the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women’s Facebook page saying, “The KKK was formed by the democrats to keep control over black Americans. The democrats of today just traded ropes for welfare.”

When NewsChannel 4 contacted the state president of the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women Pam Pollard, she told us on the phone she hadn’t seen the post.

She read the post while she was still on the phone with us, and it was deleted before the end of the conversation.

She also said the person normally responsible for making post to their Facebook page is quote “usually really good about it.” And that she planned to issue an apology on Facebook.

She declined an interview on camera.

“An apology is hollow and meaningless,” said Mark Hammons.

Hammons is the chair of the local Democratic Party.

“Its offensive, it’s racist, and its inaccurate, other than it does reflect the attitude toward people who are disadvantaged or not of the same party they are,” Hammons said.

He says the post is distressing because it implies programs that help those in need are a way of buying votes.

“Yet our Governor was using taxpayer money to have her daughter vacation on the Governor’s mansion in violation of the law. So it’s okay for the Governor to provide welfare to her daughter at state expense, but it’s not okay to provide assistance to children, the elderly or the needy, and we are going to turn that help into some kind of racist message,” he said.

This new post also comes just two weeks after controversial Facebook post from the Oklahoma Republican party. Some claimed compared welfare recipients to animals. That group issued an apology the next day on its page.

As for Wednesday’ post, here is the statement the emailed to us from the president of the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women.

“The OK Federation of Republican Women regrets that an offensive post was made to our Facebook page today. I did not make the post or approve the post and when it was brought to my attention I immediately deleted it. I have since changed the settings on our page to approve all posts before they are published.”

The best way to offend a democrat is to tell the truth. Republicans should do that more often.
