Shut up about Cecil the Lion, please
Telegraph ^ | 7/30/15 | Rupert Myers

The outrage over Cecil's death is absurd when you think of the other, bigger problems which people are happy to ignore

There is a new, pointless ride opening in town designed to give users an instant but ephemeral rush. It isn’t the slide down the ugly, unnecessary Olympic tower, but the convenient and free outrage bus currently stopping on your street and picking up passengers for Cecil, the beautiful dead lion.

Out of any and all proportion to the severity of his dreadful act of animal murder, the dentist who killed Cecil has become an international focal point of hate and anger. As wars are waged, women are raped, young men commit suicide, boats in the Mediterranean sink and desperate homeless migrants head for Calais, it’s Cecil who commands our hearts unwarranted levels of our attention.

And I think people that think that are psychopaths.

fortunately neither meet the definition.

He has money, he was using it for something legal. Those fees help support the habitat in that area, which keeps other lions alive and healthy. The average lifespan of a lion is about 14 years. So Cecil was not long for this world anyway.

Its big news because it helps fuel the hatred of hunting. Which can be used in the US to ban hunting and guns.

Actually it is easy to understand. The editors in the media have a bunch of stories tossed their way each day and they decide what is emphasized and given coverage. Their criteria is pretty obvious. If it fits their leftist viewpoint the story plays. If it doesn’t it either gets spun or ignored. Whether it impacts the audience directly or not is not going to prevent the leftist propaganda from playing. This story fits. Rich white American dentist goes trophy hunting in Africa and unethically kills beloved local lion who has even been given a pet name. Social media also fans the flames so that is great for the editors as long as furor fits their propaganda. I’m no expert but I have been around FR long enough to pick up enough to know this.

In my previous post, I said nothing or inferred nothing about halting the right to protest.

I’m appalled at the rush to judgement in this case.

None of us really know what happened during that hunt. Since we don’t know, I’m suggesting that everyone dial down the passion and rhetoric for a moment.

It’s like the PR Exec who Tweeted something racist before boarding a flight to South Africa, who found out after she landed that she became the most hated person on the planet.

Sorry for the confusion.

Media double standard? I’m shocked! The media addresses what sells, nothing more nothing less.

I’m just freaking TIRED of idiots on both the right and left who insist that *THEIR* issue is the only one that matters and that every and every other wrong in the world should not be addressed or mentioned until abortion/RKBA/climate/immigration/communism/capitalism or whatever else is taken care of, it’s BS, insulting to the intelligence and counterproductive.

Yep we live in a social media world these days and that world is like a schoolyard of bullies or maybe even a prison with various groups forming gangs. A while ago one of my posts here on FR about some capital punishment case got quoted in a newspaper. I was surprised but we shouldn’t be. In the court of public opinion anything we do on the internet can be used against us. At least the post was quoted accurately and IIRC they got my nick right too. :)

I’m outraged about a lot of things. This is one of them. <<

Could you clarify your outrage on a 1-10 scale for me?

1. Cecil (1-10)

2. Planned parenthood (1-10)

3. Benghazi (1-10)

4. IRS Targeting (1-10)

( Nobody should have to spit out their gum to get it right...I'm serious..give each one a # please)

It’s like a contest to see who can be the most outraged, and if you aren’t outraged enough, you might as well have killed Cecil yourself.

...I thought Cecil was the seasick dragon that Beanie hung out with, and I thought the most famous lion was Clarence, the cross-eyed lion..

What about Gladly, the Cross Eyed Bear?

I was making an example of my own life where some think *I* am the psycho because I kill it and grill it, myself.

"What he did was indefensible."

It is possible for two positions to be legitimate. Yes, the guy is a creep. But again, many other people are being revealed as hypocrites.

Many of the people wailing about Cecil probably don't give a damn about people being butchered by ISIS or babies carved up by abortionists. I doubt Kimmel sheds any tears over the latter.

Exactly! I'm tired of those that imply I am outraged over the illegal killing of this lion but not the murdering butchers of PP.

I'm upset over the lion and heartsick over PP!
