China sets up first unmanned factory
The Business Standard ^ | July 27, 2015 | Press Trust of India

A Chinese firm specialising in precision technology has set up the first unmanned factory at Dongguan city where all the processes are operated by robots, regarded as futuristic solution to tide over China's looming demographic crisis and dependence on manual workers.

In the plant, all the processes are operated by computer- controlled robots, computer numerical control machining equipment, unmanned transport trucks and automated warehouse equipment.

The technical staff just sits at the computer and monitors through a central control system.

At the workshop of Changying Precision Technology Company in Dongguan, known as the "world factory", which manufactures cell phone modules, 60 robot arms at 10 production lines polish the modules day and night, state-run People's Daily reported.

Each line has an automatic belt with just three workers who are just responsible for checking lines and monitoring. A few months ago, it required 650 workers to finish this process.

A robot arm can replace six to eight workers, now there are 60 workers and the number will be reduced to 20 in the future, Luo Weiqiang, general manager of the company told the Daily.

This is the first step of the "robot replace human" programme, it said.

In the next two years, the number of robots will be increased to 1,000 and 80 per cent process will be conducted by robots, said Chen Qixing, president of the company.

Compared with many skilled workers, these robots are new hands. But they made far more and better products than well- trained workers and experts, the report said.

With nearly 200 million people above 60 years and old age population set to rise sharply, China is bracing to face demographic crisis in the near future as it will have fewer work force.

Data at the Dongguan factory show that since the robots came to the plant the defect rate of products has dropped from over 25 per cent to less than 5 per cent and the production capacity from more than 8,000 pieces per person per month increased to 21,000 pieces.

The company is only a microcosm of Dongguan, one of the manufacturing hubs in China. The city plans to finish 1,000 to 1,500 "robot replace human" programmes by 2016.

With the implementation of "Made in China 2025" strategy, a growing number of "unmanned workshops or factories" will come out, the report said.

342 Billion was our trade deficit with China just last year, and it’s still increasing every year.

Donald Trump is the only one, saying a single word about it.

China’s economic advantage in manufacturing was cheap labor. If they can build an automated factory, the same factory can be built anywhere else for similar costs.

Why do you keep saying that when you know it isn’t true?

I recently worked at one of the most automated facilities in the United States. It was amazing. Then, they lost their major contract. Instead of keeping all the robotic equipment they tore it out and scrapped it. You’d think that they’d keep it and solicit new business based on their proven capability to produce high volume, near perfect products. No. Because, the local county government has a tax on machinery based on the original purchase price. That tax ran into the millions. Government to the rescue, once more.

Incidentally, this company had hired hundreds of people off the welfare roles to support all that automation. This stuff doesn’t load itself. The machinery does not oil, grease or clean itself, either. Most of those folks lost their jobs too. All that potential lost. You can’t even work a deal where they temporarily suspend the tax. Government is not that flexible and, the official involved don’t care.

No, the part where you say Mr. Trump is the only one talking about it. Don’t be cutely disingenuous with me. That might work with some of these other posters, but I’m here way too much and smart enough that you’re not going to shine me on. You know as well as I do that Senator Cruz has been talking about these issues since he first ran for office in 2011.

Even if the jobs did come back to the U.S. they would go to you, they would go to a robot. Think hard on that.

Where has Cruz made our trade deficit an issue?

Where has ANYONE made our trade deficit an issue?

There are two people talking about our trade deficit at the moment:

Donald Trump on the right, and whatshisname on the left.

Everyone else is 100% for what we’re currently doing. Please if you have specific examples of anyone else being for American manufacturing, please present them.

Thanks.

I agree Cruz is all for Trump’s position (or vice-versa) about our immigration mess.

But Trump is currently the only one speaking out our massive, and still-growing trade deficit.

Anywhere.

No no no. Surely this can’t be.

Even though we sent production to fully modern factories in China when I was in manufacturing in the 90s, I have debated with Freepers for years who insist Chinese factories are one hundred percent manual sweatshops with child slave laborers.
They could never be a serious world contender because China was so backward.

Or these Freepers are idiots who wholey bought into an image crafted by the communist government to sedate them to the true extent of China’s rise.

Maybe I have to busy with taking care of my mother, BUT I do not recall Trump talking to much about the deficit other Mexico - Ford building a plant in Mexico (taking from the state of Michigan where the Ford Focus is being already built) for 2 billion. Ford has a plant in Brazil whereby the parts for the Ford ranger which is not sold in the US, but around the world. Ford has focused its truck on the F-150. He did say a litle about China, but not a whole lot. Like I said i have been rather busy taking care of a parent, many sleepless nights so i may be missing someting.

i used to be against Cruz, but the likes of Donald trump does frighten me. Come now a guy that blusters and screams, may achieve something but look what we have in America already - a pResident that buys votes to get his way, not the will of the people. Tell me how will Trump be any different. The breast pumping by an attorney during a deposition supposedly Trump got all bent out of shape. Really breast pumping caused an uproar. It not like he has seen a breast before or that his not had a wife whom breast fed at least one of his children. Cone now to get bent out of shape by breast pumping. (It is done in a manner that eliminates exposure of the breast o a minimum) You mean old Donald was shocked by a woman. Gee, go to a third world country, whereby people still urinate and defecate in the great outdoors, 70% of India they still do their business in the great outdoors! When a youngster as a medical missionaries kid their was a lot to be seen around the world, Middle east, Africa and Asia.

So i now will probably be attacked that I am stupid, naive and I am a GOPe because I do not support Trump. trump is not the answer.

Trump is just as opposed to our deficit with China.

This is not a racist issue, at all.

That is completely bogus.

The Focus (that I drive) is built fewer than two or three miles from the plant where I work. 60% American parts, the rest from Canada and Mexico, with the exception of the German transmission. God Bless NAFTA, and Ronald Reagan.

I just downloaded a speech by Cruz, he sad he was for Free Trade. I think his exact words were "I am a free trader".

I don't have a candidate, none of them deserve my respect, but if I have to choose between Cruz and the Beast I will vote for Cruz then go get drunk. It is the voting pattern that I have adapted in recent decades.
