WARNING: The video above may be too graphic for some viewers. Watch with discretion.

CINCINNATI - UC police officer Ray Tensing's body camera video clearly shows that he committed "murder" when he shot and killed an unarmed black motorist at a traffic stop, prosecutor Joe Deters said Wednesday.

The shocking video shows Tensing, standing outside the driver's door, with 43-year-old Sam DuBose at the wheel, talking peacefully for about 90 seconds. Tensing repeatedy asks DuBose to produce a driver's license. DuBose says he has a license but he doesn't have it with him.

"A body camera that shows"

I have come around to the use of body cams on all LEO.

Any cop who is operating within the law and procedure would have nothing to fear from that, and I believe MOST would welcome it.

As I understand it, this was supposed to stop cops from shooting bad guys in the head. But cops and courts have found ways and means to circumvent this by claiming the cops were assaulted.

Very gray area.

We don't cotton to personal attacks around these parts.

Especially from newbies.

The same way I feel about the many Amendments written in the 1700’s, 1800’s, 1900’s and - I’m sure the 2000’s.

“View it with you r finger on the pause and try to frame by frame it.”

I did as you suggested and it was clear that when the officer told him to get out of the car the suspect started the car and at the 1:55 mark the suspect reached for something (looked like the glove box) Then at 1:56 he is still going for whatever it was or has it. The officers gun is visible on the right side of the screen. I think that’s where he got shot.

When slowed down I could see what you describe:

The suspect grabbed the officer’s arm and started the car while reaching for something in the passenger side. The gun came out, fired, and then the officer was on the ground as the car rolled off.

I’m watching this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=1352&v=cW2rSNytAxQ

27+ minutes, in high-def (Warning: Graphic).

I’m interested in this case because my college grad daughter and her beloved moved to Cincy in June.

In my opinion, it’s not a righteous shoot, it’s a panic shoot. Dubose turns off his car at the 1:40 mark of this video, answers (or evades) Tensing’s questions, and then as Tensing requests he unbuckle and step out of the car, Dubose claims he didn’t do anything and re-starts the car at about 3:15. Clear intent to flee. Tensing then reaches in to turn off the car and things get escalated in a nanosecond.

I can’t support an outright murder indictment. I can support manslaughter. However, Tensing, building his case, takes every opportunity following the shooting to say out loud that his arm or hand was caught in the steering wheel and he was being dragged (which isn’t clearly shown), so he might be something of a sleazebag in that regard..

I am concerned about the seeming increase in rate of officer/civilian shootings. This country is simmering wildly just below the surface. I have daughters in Cincy and Columbia, SC and frankly I worry about rioting affecting both of them. But IMO, Tensing was overcharged. I’d call it manslaughter and be comfortable in that decision. It’s ugly on both sides. Tensing bolsters his case with being “dragged” and Dubose doesn’t do himself any favors with being evasive and making gestures indicating intent to flee.

It may be an unpopular opinion, but it’s mine and I own it.

I see this as a case of karma, Dubose was due a shooting, sooner or later.

The cop showed admirable restraint.

I couldn't be a cop, I'm an intolerant curmudgeon.

The truth is not all that matters.

I would take it a step further. There is no room for truth in court. If you have ever been in court cases, and I have been in many, the truth id very often an afterthought.

Look at those officers in Baltimore. Their lives as officers are over truth or no truth.

The officer in this case is toast. Truth will not help him. Even if there are compelling circumstances he is toast. He will not get a fair hearing. A change of venue to another state would be best.

There are certain Freepers who would have fit in just fine with the SS, mowing down people in ditches without a moment’s thought.

It’s scary...

Sorry. The perp stopped the cop from opening the door, he then started the car AND (this is a big deal) put the car in gear to take off. Now here is the next big deal.....if the car wasn’t in gear, ready to roll, how did the car take off after the shooting. The cop had no idea who or what he was dealing with, all he knew was no ID, a bottle of gin on the floor, continual movement in the front seat, and a guy ready to flee.

Truth is all that matters to me though.

What happens in a court room is out of my hands unless I am a juror in a courtroom.

in this particular case, the officer has been indicted, so that means we are going to have further detailed evidence, which I will be interested in studying.

That youtube video is much clearer.

You're right - this is a panic shoot. What happens, I think, is that when Dubose starts the car to pull away Tensing reaches in and tries to switch the keys off in the ignition, and is either grabbed by the suspect or gets his arm or hand caught in the steering wheel. As the car moves, Tensing pulls out his gun and shoots Dubose, and is then tossed on the ground by the moving vehicle - you can tell when Tensing is on the ground because his cam is pointed at the sky.

While I have some sympathy for Tensing because of what is going to happen to him, I would have to agree that this is not optimal police work, and Tensing should never have had his body in the car.

Then do everything a LEO tells you to do, immediately & carefully, and without any resistance, complaint, back talk, or attempt to flee.

Should we kiss the officers...feet while we're at it?

If someone tries to run your ass over with their car and you defend yourself, that’s murder?

Didn't watch the video, did you? Nobody tried to run the officer over.

As I understand it - cops have had a green light for years to shoot a fleeing suspect. They make out like the suspect was going to run them over and BANG! They shoot.

Fleeing suspects. Standing suspects. Any kind of suspects.

Maybe he fell down after he shot DuBose, but it was - per regulations - a clean kill.

If it was a clean kill then why did he wait? Why not shoot the guy once he rolled his window down?

But - because DuBose is a protected minority - CVS’s gotta burn.

The dead guy did not do anything that justified being shot in the head. The officer was not in danger. No bystanders were in danger. Nothing justified the use of deadly force.

He reached under the seat, then into the glove and then locked the door after the officer asked him to remove his seat belt.

don't know if the shooting was justified but he should have been on bigh alert.
