Bullying behaviors are linked to higher self-esteem, social status, and a lower rate of depression, according to a new provocative study.
Researchers at Simon Fraser University observed a group of high school students finding that bullies had the highest self esteem, greatest social status, and were less likely to be depressed, as reported by National Post.

This finding is an artifact of the way “bully” is defined, I think. I’m guessing that their definition of a bully is anyone who makes one feel badly about oneself. Thus, skilled, competent, independent, self-reliant people are encompassed as “bullies” by their reckoning.
And where is the high school bully today?
All that “self-esteem” (which is itself a questionable metric) goes straight down the crapper when bully boy hits a new situation and someone else is top dog.
Many of these bullies masquerade as victims of bullying. Some quite convincingly.

The term “bully” is now meant to deride conservatives with manly traits. I was “bullied”, it toughened me up, I owe those guys a debt.

Hmm. Second or third grade some clown was bullying me until I kicked his butt (realtive to the age bracket) and from then on he followed me around like a whipped pup. Had a similar incident in HS when the bully surrounded by his minions tried to pick a fight with me in the hallway. I dropped my books and got in his face and challenged him to meet me in front of the gym after school without his minions. No show. And, I’m a wuss actually and try to steer clear of confrontations. :>}
