Oh Damn. I just learned Ted Cruz doesn’t smoke flowers. Or even advocate that other people smoke ‘em.

He must be not be a conservative.

It should be up to the states. Chris Christie of course has it wrong.

That said, I despise the new public dope smokers even here in my state where it's illegal. They have become quite common. Hardly a day goes my where I'm not breathing in their skunky, dopey smoke, in parks, at stop lights and from neighboring houses.

Probably be much better off if he cracked down on his own personal consumption of donuts and pizzas.

Somebody, please, paint "Goodyear" on his a$$ and send him up.

Can't tell unless we know how he feels about arresting others who choose for themselves.

It’s a scary position to be in favor of drug abuse. John the Revelator quoted Christ in Rev. 21:8 when Christ recited a laundry list of people that will be thrown into the lake of fire:

Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

One of them is “sorcerers,” according to the KJV translators, and they probably used that word because they had no experience with drug abuse. But the underlying Greek word is “pharmakeus,” and the sense of it is someone who casts a spell on his mind using drugs.

Looks like Christie has decided to swim against public opinion and be a "leader".

I wonder how many Social Conservatives will now support him?

Well, that will certainly win the presidency for him.

Sure. And if Cruz made these comments and not Christie - then what would all you pro-dopers do?

Or do you really believe Ted will be 420 friendly?

Very few so-cons on this thread. Mostly pro-dope liberals. But speaking as a conservative; I’ll tell you that one correct assessment by Christie here will NOT get him all that far with us conservatives.

"Is dope smoking really a freedom?"

It's a behavior that is protected, at the Federal level, by the 10th Amendment.

And YES, I would call the 10th Amendment a fundamental "Freedom".

Now, what the states choose to do is up to them provided they do not violate the Constitution.

I'm not going to get into details, but I knew Chris Christie's uncle. He was dying of cancer and told me how much terrible pain he was in. I told him, if he needed it, I could get him some pot and it might help ease his suffering.

Despite the same last name, I didn't realize he was Chris Christie's uncle (Chris wasn't governor yet, but was NJ State Attorney). He was reluctant, he said, for "political reasons" to avail himself of pot, despite the terrible pain. Finally, he decided to give it a shot. I got him some weed and a pipe to smoke it in. When I brought it to his house, he told me he had changed his mind. He said he told his doctor that he was going to try pot and the doctor upped his medications instead. I didn't really believe him - he was obviously hurting as he spoke to me. I think he was really only concerned about the illegality of it.

He lived in pain for a few months after that, then died. Only later did I learn who his nephew was.

"He must be not be a conservative."

Cruz is ABSOLUTELY a Conservative and also a bedrock Social Conservative.

He just happens to believe in the 10th Amendment and believes States should determine their own pot laws.
