Senate To Vote on Defunding Planned Parenthood

Newly minted Republican Senator Joni Ernst introduced legislation late yesterday to defund Planned Parenthood after a series of undercover videos by the Center for Medical Progress revealed the abortion giant selling baby parts and haggling over prices. (In case you missed the videos, Cortney has you covered here). The legislation is co-sponsored by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, GOP presidential candidate Rand Paul and five other Republicans.

"A bill to prohibit Federal funding of Planned Parenthood Federation of America," the legislation states. "IN GENERAL.—Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no Federal funds may be made available to Planned Parenthood Federation of America, or to any of its affiliates, subsidiaries, successors, or clinics."

The legislation is set for a vote early next week ahead of the August recess.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) fast-tracked the legislation Tuesday night using Rule 14 of Senate procedure, setting up a procedural cloture vote to move the bill to the floor as early as Monday. That all but assures the bill will get a final vote before Senators depart for August recess.

Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood and other abortion supporters are scrambling to defend themselves after the undercover sting. The pro-abortion political outfit EMILY's List sent a frantic fundraising email early this morning warning about the legislation.

Planned Parenthood receives more than $500 million per year in taxpayer funding. The organization receives enough money from donations every year to survive without it.

Aack. War on women.
It's just a blob of tissue - with organs.
It's a vast right wing conspiracy.
You liked my mom, Ma Richards. You should like me.
Pay no attention to that woman, Margaret Sanger, behind the curtain.

NOW IS THE TIME: for years Planned Parenthood has been hiding behind it’s list of donors.......after a court said it didn’t have to reveal them.

In light of the shocking videos——we demand to know who is enabling this barbarism via their donations.

This really needs to get done. I think Rand Paul was out there the most trying to yank the funding. Kudos to him for forcing a vote.

FYI....Midge hand carried this *bill* directly to Pander Paul. We’ll see if they actually defund the evil PP.

Why didn’t they attach it to their beloved highway bill? Just wondering.

Yeah, right. And here’s why it won’t work: McConnell does not have the authority to decide unilaterally that a given law can be repealed through reconciliation; instead, parliamentarians, the umpires of Senate procedure, interpret the relevant rules and precedents whenever a disagreement arises. Much of Obamacare does not qualify for reconciliation under the Byrd rule, the regulation that governs the process. Some Republicans believe that McConnell has done more to deter colleagues from pushing for a full repeal than he did to convince the parliamentarians that it would be possible under the Byrd rule. “Internally, they’ve been aggressive in terms of, whenever this subject comes up, saying we can only do so much,” says one senior GOP Senate aide. We’re being played. Again. Posted on ‎7‎/‎29‎/‎2015‎ ‎9‎:‎26‎:‎44‎ ‎AM by SeekAndFind

I want to see Democrats go on record as supporting the dead baby market.

Heavy editing!

It's for vital research!

No laws were broken!

Videos are from extremist group!

PP really did not make any money!

Only a few centers involved!

Those are the Talking Points de jour (I heard all of them within 30 seconds from a CNN talking head). Any deviation from Talking Points de jour will be swiftly punished.

Because it’s not really that important to many or most of their financial backers/lobbyists.

Or....maybe it is. I’ve wondered a very long time what interest/business the GOP has in keeping PP funded. That ONE issue should’ve been priority ONE, based on the party’s platform, to defund....decades ago.

Follow the $$...what is in it for the RINO/GOPe?

“Why didn’t they attach it to their beloved highway bill? Just wondering.”

My guess is to have a separate vote will make it easier and less obvious (because people won’t be screaming for the $$$) when they vote to continue the funding of Planned Parenthood.

But I don’t know. When McConnell is involved, everything is called into question.

Let me understand this If I can. I believe that this now will move to the House. House will play around with it and back to the Senate. Senate work it over again and to the President. The President will veto. Back to the Senate for re-vote. They will not get a 67 to override veto. DAMN THING DID NOTHING. Or do we no longer involve the House who has control of the budget.

Is this not the procedure or because I am over 83 I no longer understand what was once my Government.

Ah the Senate Theater. If this statement of intent were attached to the Highway funding bill then it might have a chance of this passing.

It’s doubtfull Joe Sixpack didn’t know the “Godless Progs” known as democrats support funding the sale of baby body parts by Planned Parenthood. Necause we know “Our fearless leader” in some places known as the Fuhrer will use his pen and veto because population control is policy.

Now if we did have actual opposition leadershup in the House and Senate. There would be a roll call vote of record. Then an attempt to override that veto which would identify legislators who support funding baby killings and baby part sales.

Good try, A for effort, but Planned Parenthood will continue to be funded by Fed.gov. The evil is so entrenched now, it can never be removed from this iteration of the American government.
