The newspaper smeared him re: McCain, so he's giving it the same treatment he gave the Des Moines Register.
Smart move. Gives him a chance to check out the field prior to the big debate, plus he’s way ahead in first place.

Basically, if a paper won’t endorse him, he will throw a tantrum and not participate.
