The leader of the Afghan Taliban, Mullah Mohammed Omar, has died, Afghan officials say, but the militant group has not commented on the claim.
The reclusive leader died two to three years ago, Afghan government and intelligence sources said. No further details were released.
A Taliban spokesman contacted by the BBC said the group would issue a statement shortly.
There have been several reports of Mullah Omars death in the past. However, this is the first to be confirmed by top sources in the Afghan government.

I will NEVER forgive/forget the story from October 2001, during the opening phase of OEF - Omar was escaping Afghanistan across the Paki border using an ambulance as his getaway vehicle.
We had a positive ID on him, a Predator in the air with a Hellfire on lock, and some JAG O-5 told the commander they couldn’t fire. And the operators had to watch their target scurry across the line into Pok-ee-stahn.
A lawyer - a goddam lawyer - overrode the commander in a combat situation.
That was they day I started questioning whether we were serious about prosecuting the war.

If I recall correctly he was the one who said America was attacked because we make it easy to do so.

I was told that we always knew where they were. Since we knew where they were, we could intercept comms from them. So long as they were alive and communicating, they were as asset for us.
