First of all, Reagan did not sentence Pollard to life imprisonment. A DEMOCRAT Carter-appointed federal judge did so. Judges do sentencing, that's the rule of law.

But in this case, given the facts (of which many are ignorant), the appropriate sentence, based on previous case law, should have been in the neighborhood of three to five years, NOT life.
