A pastor shot and injured an intruder at the Church of New Beginnings in Baytown, Texas sometime after 6 a.m. Tuesday, police say. Pastor Benny Holmes was sleeping in his office when he woke up to the sound of someone attempting to break into the church. Holmes then armed himself and shot the burglary suspect in the right shoulder, according to ABC 13 Eyewitness News in Houston.
The alleged intruder, identified as Lee Marvin Blue, was immediately taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital and is now in stable condition. Police described Blue as having an extensive criminal history.
Last year, Pastor Holmes made national news for taking down a suspected package thief in his front yard. Holmes gave a sermon after the incident, telling his congregation why he believes that God approves of the Second Amendment.
Beat your ploughshares in to swords....
The perp is definately “lost”.
GIVE THAT MAN A HAR-RUMPH!!
(HAR-RUMPH! HAR-RUMPH!!)
You'd be surprised. Our church is pretty small, but I know for a fact that most Sundays, there are at least three armed individuals there, myself included.
well, one intruder found his “New Beginning” at the Church of the New Beginnings....that’s for sure
He shot Lee Marvin? I didn’t even know he was still alive.
...
And your pruning hooks into spears.
Let the weak man say “I am a warrior!”
The New Beginnings Church i found...was in the same town as reported If I remember correctly.
Anyway we know for certain that it wasnt that rather ornate but lovely british chapel in the earlier posting.
Joel 3 v10: Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong.
He that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and pack a roscoe. To paraphrase the apostle Luke.
Yet.

A couple of years back after the Colorado female church security volunteer put down the killer who had previously shot up another church service, our pastor asked those of us who routinely carried, including during services, to stand up so that our fellow parishoners would know who among them would protect them should troubles come our way. He then stood with us, and showed his new hip rig and small-frame .38 revolver, and read us a short section from the apostle Luke.
Of the 12 apostles with Jesus at the Last Supper, Luke informs us that two of them had swords that evening. Our little church does not quite have a 1/6 ratio of armed partishoners, but we're close, and some of the wives have some interestingly heavy purses.
The now-deceased former actor Lee Marvin, for whom the perp may have been named, was among other things a former combat Marine PFC, badly wounded by enemy machinegun fire during the Battle for Saipan.. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Section 7A, Site 176.
Excellent.
That particular verse seems to be curiously overlooked by disarmists. It's even more dramatic when you take into account the serious aversion amongst Jews to nakedness.
I have had a couple of lefty/pacifist ministers attempt to explain to me that in that passage the Lord *really means* that our faith is the sword that we should have, as witness that even Peter denied Christ three times.
They usually don't have much of an answer when I ask in response that therefore, only two out of twelve Christians should have faith? And since later that evening Peter cut the ear off a fellow with his sword, how that faith materialized to accomplish that task. Usually, they're not familiar with this old Polish museum piece.
