McCarthy signals Ex-Im Bank dead for now
Washington Examiner ^ | July 27 2013 | SUSAN FERRECHIO

For the second time in a week, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy has rejected the idea of passing a Senate long-term highway funding bill that would include a provision to revive the Export-Import Bank.

"My best advice to the Senate is to get our highway bill moving forward," McCarthy told reporters.

McCarthy said the House will adjourn in four days, on Thursday, and will not stick around to take up any highway spending measure sent from the Senate.

His decision essentially ends any hope of reviving the authorization of the Export-Import Bank, which expired on June 30. Many Republicans and almost every Democrat wants to keep the bank alive, but a significant number of conservative lawmakers call the bank a form of corporate welfare.

It’s only Tuesday morning.

They have until Thursday to knuckle under to Mitch McConnell.

Who will fold first? The Senate, who will be forced to vote on the House bill?

Or the House, who will be forced vote on the Senate bill before they recess?

Place yer bets.

I thought Reid liked clean bills.

I'm sure Dingy McConnell will take Reid's counsel on the issue.

True, but I believe this is the reason the House is saying this...

The Senators don’t care since most aren’t up for re-election. House members are elected every 2 years so they know their time is coming quickly.

Senator Cruz couldn’t even stop the Senate from approving the Ex-Im Bank.

The House is closer to the people. Voters stopped the Ex-Im Bank. You won’t stop crony capitalism in the Senate, but it just might be coming to a halt in the House.

The Senate voted for the bill, but now it has to pass in the HOR with all of the disgusting stuff the Senate added to it. McCarthy said no to that and said the Senate should pass a 5-month extension of the bill that expires on Friday.

If the crony capitalists want the ex-im bank so bad, they can introduce a standalone bill for it. Let’s have everyone go on record for their support.
