But Trump is useful for Cruz, he’s setting the table.

Yup! Bingo!

It's so amazingly obvious that I'm surprised that more people can't connect the dots. Trump is illuminating key important issues, and Cruz is reinforcing Trump's arguments. Eventually, Eventually Trump will fade into the background, leaving Cruz in center stage.

And I don’t think anyone here, even Trump’s strong detractors would say that Trump doesn’t love this country. And I do feel deep down he is doing whatever he is doing, because he sees this country going down the tubes.

“Eventually, Eventually Trump will fade into the background, leaving Cruz in center stage. “

You’re kidding, right? I could see Cruz taking the VP slot on the Trump team, but there’s no way Trump is going to “fade into the background” voluntarily.
If Cruz can win on his own, fine! But he’s a young man, and the VP office in a Trump Admin would almost guarantee his becoming president after Trump runs one or two terms. Cruz’ polling numbers don’t have him anywhere near where he needs to be to be the candidate. At least not at present. That’s sad, but it’s the truth.
