The deal is “horrific” he says, but we should tone down the rhetoric??? Why?
These politicians are all ineffectual people who are shocked by strong statements.
I remember when Reagan was going to speak at the Brandenburg Gate. He said he wanted to make a speech imploring the Russians to ‘tear down this wall’. His advisers wanted him to ‘tone down the rhetoric’. “But that IS what we want to happen, isn’t it?” , Reagan asked. The result was one of the great speeches of the twentieth century.
