GOP Senators Lead Push to Allow States to Impose Internet Sales Tax

Republicans in the Senate are leading efforts to pass legislation that would allow the states to impose a sales tax on online transactions.

Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY) has proposed the Marketplace Fairness Act (MFA), which would allow states to "collect and remit sales and use taxes with respect to remote sales.” The bill includes an exemption for companies whose gross remote sales are less than $1 million per year. The legislation enjoys support particularly among legislators in rural states who believe that online retailers are encroaching on sales made out of traditional storefronts. […]

This is not the first time Enzi has pushed for an online sales tax. In 2014, he was able to pass the bill in the Senate by combining it with another bill called the Internet Tax Freedom Act (ITFA). Conservatives supported ITFA because it prohibited taxes from being imposed on Internet access service. However, the package never reached the floor of the House for a vote.

While Enzi’s bill stands to pass the Senate with bipartisan support again this year, it still faces strong opposition from conservatives. …

I doubt a Senator Liz Cheny would have been proposing this bill.

Now I try to give local business my $$$. In the last few days I’ve been to Lowes at 3 different stores. Just looking for contractor grade range hoods. Wasted a whole bunch of gas and time only to find box stores refusing to keep stock of the popular items in favor of expecting you to be desperate and buy their other stock they can’t sell, at of course higher prices. In the end I had to order online and on top of it all will save considerably.

Republicans paying it forward.

Their principal objective for the last 3 or 4 years has been to buy enough favor that Democrats will support them on TPA.

Nothing else matters to them, nothing.

I'm so proud of Gov Kasich! Amazon has opened a distribution center in OH. For our good, of course. Because of that, OH residents now have to pay state tax on Amazon purchases.

What are the odds that money will get to communities which have been starved of the money they need to provide local services?

We're in a position where the "lesser evil" is greater than the "greater evil". That's because the lesser evil through deceit took away the opportunity for someone who is not evil to be the other choice.

If I'm choosing degrees of evil in the future, I'll go with the greater of the two evils. It's more honest.

Perhaps the bill should also allow states to choose who DOESNT have to pay “internet taxes”!

Don’t complain impotently folks. Direct your concerns to the people that demanded lesser evil be elected and who promised they would hold their feet to the fire.

Since they bald faced lied to each of you about it they should be made to answer for it.

Why do they need to become Democrats? You must have missed it but the Republican platform has changed. They are now in favor of big government too. Have been for quite awhile.

Ronald Reagan once said that the problem is not that the government doesn’t tax people enough, but that the government spends too much.

Wake up GOP idiots!
