Billionaire businessman Donald Trump said Sunday that leaders of the Republican National Committee (RNC) are warming up to his campaign just days after he blasted the party leaders and threatening during an exclusive interview with The Hill to run as a third-party candidate.
Theyve been really nice over the last few days, theyre starting to see whats happening, Trump said on CNNs State of the Union with Jake Tapper.
They viewed me as an outsider I guess, and now theyre starting to view me not as an outsider because Im leading in all the polls, Trump said, pointing to a CNN poll released Sunday that revealed strong support for his candidacy.
Trumps comments show an abrupt turnaround in his relationship with Republican Party officials.

HE’S PLAYING WITH THEM!!!
This is just great to watch!
At least they’re consistent. Treat them like crap and they’ll lick your shoes.
“Be nice....Until it’s time to not be nice.”
It’s a Trap, Donald!
They want him to run as a Republican, but they won’t nominate him.
Just dreaming here but if he could run as 3rd party and win that would be ideal and tell the RINO’s to go you know where.
He's also giving them a way out of this Mexican standoff.
Trumps comment about running 3rd party if he was treated unfairly but the GOP-e was a shot across the bow. Seems to have worked.
Trump threatens RNC by being nice to them in public....
Someone in the RNC is trying to play Trump.
They hate him head to toe but can’t say it publicly.
Normally Rove would throw 10M from donor funds to get him to withdraw.
This won’t work this time.
If he wins the nomination it will do the same thing.
He's playing chess, and they're not even playing checkers.
They're playing Old Maid.
GOPe is negotiating with Trump now, in addition to Walker.
So Phase 1: blocking their candidates has apparently succeeded.
Keep your friends close and your enemy evem closer.
They had a guest host for Michael Medved interviewing some RNC person (I didn’t get his name).
The RNC guy essentially said the following: “We got all the Republican candidates together and got them to all agree to stay away from the ‘hot button’ issues (like border security), as that turns off large segments of the voting population. Then Trump came and he hasn’t played by those rules.” LOL.
Also, at the very end of the interview, the guest host and the RNC guy were yucking it up and agreed that Trump would make a great Democrat and the RNC guy then said something like “Could you imagine Trump debating Hillary - now that would be fun”. I think most FReepers would agree with him, even though he meant it as with Trump being a Democrat in a Primary debate. He must not have slept well, after making that comment.
Boy, Trump is firing on all cylinders.
He's damn good...and he's proving it.
He said he's tough and smart enough to beat Russia, China, et al...he's proving it.
“He’s also giving them a way out of this Mexican standoff.”
Good point...they will sorely REGRET not taking this opportunity to treat him with some respect - for it may well be their LAST CHANCE to have him on their side.
...and if Trump does win the big prize as a Republican, their Chamber-of-Commerce jobs will be TOAST if they’re not on his good side. He will have that power over the party. They had better take this escape hatch and quickly, as Trump won’t keep it open very long.
As opposed to many opinions, I think the GOPe isn’t as dumb as some make them out to be...
What’s the downside in the RNC making nice to Trump ?
Not much...
Trump is still a long shot and if he winds up as a runner up in the end, at least the GOPe didn’t make him an enemy...
Whoever the Candidate is going to be, they will need his support to beat Hillary...
The only lesser deal I can think of is that next time Trump will demand that some candidate (thinking Walker or Jeb) pull out.
If they don't accept that, he'll to a rinse and repeat.
Har! Har!
