Transit police union criticizes response to Baltimore riots

The union representing state transit police in Baltimore says commanders and agency administrators made "detrimental and disturbing" decisions that endangered officers during April's riots — adding another layer of criticism to the response by law enforcement leaders.

In a letter, AFSCME Local 1859 President Jerome Damon called on the Maryland Transit Administration to investigate the agency's handling of the April 27 unrest, noting that four officers dispatched without protective gear to a West Baltimore subway station had to be rescued by an armored vehicle after crowds set two MTA police vehicles and the nearby CVS pharmacy ablaze.

The concerns — which MTA officials say are being addressed in various ways, including training and the creation of an MTA Police Mobile Field Force Team — also add to a growing list of unanswered questions about city and state officials' handling of the unrest.

he MTA Police has 156 sworn officers, including commanders, and nearly all were deployed during the unrest — working 12-hour shifts with no days off, the MTA said.

Gee, another Chocolate City destroyed by life’s losers. What a surprise.

A friend of mine has a next-door neighbor who is a Baltimore City policeman. He was badly injured in the riots when he caught a cinder block in the side of the head. It ripped the skin off of his jaw and fractured his skull. In one way, he was lucky; he'd just turned his head - had he not, he would have caught the projectile in his face.

My friend and the neighbors all rallied to the family's side (he's got a wife and kids), and provided support. He was discharged from the hospital and luckily the injuries weren't permanent, other than the pain and suffering. His wife told my friend he loves peanut butter cookies and Maker's Mark, so she baked him a full batch of the cookies and brought over a big bottle of the bourbon. He enjoyed both. :-)

His one regret was that he'd be laid up for a long time and wouldn't be able to rejoin his brothers on the force until then.

Fine, just build a wall around it, drop in some ammo, and then return after it gets all quiet.

My back has been hurting a little and I might be laid up with CRS for a while. I like boiled peanuts and Maker’s Mark. I don’t really need the peanuts, tho.

In case anyone’s interested.

Although will never be done, it would however, provide a learning example for those savages (oops, micro-aggression) locally and throughout the Country. Cordone them off and watch how soon they start whining for LEO's. But then, since it happens every day in Detroit, Chicago, Philly, St. Louis with minimal police presence MAY BE they won't learn.
