Judge rules U.S. government should not hold immigrant children

The U.S. government is violating a 1997 settlement by detaining unauthorized immigrant children, and an order may be forthcoming to require the release of the minors and parents detained with them, a judge in California has ruled.

The ruling on Friday by U.S. District Judge Dolly Gee follows an influx across the U.S.-Mexico border of immigrants from Central America.

The flood of immigrants has slowed from peaks last year, but is still high, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said earlier this summer.

The latest ruling on detentions represents a defeat for U.S. immigration authorities, who in court filings argued releasing undocumented immigrant children with their parents encourages families in Central America to undertake the dangerous journey north.

Gee ordered U.S. officials to present arguments for why she should not issue a ruling to require the release of immigrant children and a parent, usually a mother, detained with the minor. The judge indicated a willingness to implement such a ruling within 90 days.

Another Dolly Gee bimbo misinterpreting the law. What a ditz. She should pay for their upkeep, not the AMERICAN TAXPAYERS. These people ARE NOT Americans. They’re only here for the freebies! How ‘bout we worry about AMERICAN kids first, huh?

You know it would be great if either of those were in the cards ,but they are not.
We are seriously losing, or have lost this country. The judges are a huge problem.

At this point some individual states might be saved by nullification. And eventually secession. Other than that I see no hope.

Crap like this will become “judical law” and there is no will to reverse it and kick out the tard judges making these stupid rulings. And of course, in 1/2 the states the politicians are in cahoots.

Our (disgraced and resgined ex) Gov. didn’t like a citizen initiative, so he had a meeting of the judge who was going to rule on the law suit against the law, and the lawyer who was supposed to defend it for the state from the AG’s office to figure out how best to kill it judicially, which they did, not appealed, BINGO, no more citizen initiative.

The same thing was done to void prop 187 “Save our State” in California, where Gray Davis refused to defend the law.

I am looking at moving to another country soon, this one is toast. If I’m going to be living in the 3rd world I might as well get the low cost of living and lax policing.

She shoukd be removed from the bench. She was nominated to the Federal Courts by Clinton and blocked by the Republicans, then later appointed by Obama.

If you didn’t know there’s a difference between illegal immigrants and legal immigrants, this story would really seem bizarre.

You would actually believe there are people from other countries who dream of moving to America to build a better life so they fill out the appropriate paperwork, pay the necessary fees, get a job lined up, pass a background check, wait for legal approval, move to America, and check in with Immigration officials ... only to have their children arrested and detained in a holding cell indefinitely ... for no reason.

What’s bad is that most readers of Reuters actually DON’T know the difference between illegal and legal immigrants. And Reuters does nothing to educate them.

Postman - you are incorrect. From Wikipedia: On May 27, 1999, President Bill Clinton nominated Gee to be a judge on the United States District Court for the Central District of California to replace Judge John G. Davies. However, with Republicans in control of the United States Senate, Gee's nomination languished, despite her meeting with Clinton on May 24, 2000.[4] Gee never received a hearing before the Republican-controlled United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary, and her nomination was returned to Clinton at the end of his presidency.[5] President George W. Bush later successfully nominated John F. Walter to the seat to which Gee had been nominated.

On August 6, 2009, President Barack Obama nominated Gee to a seat on the United States District Court for the Central District of California, to fill the seat vacated by Judge George P. Schiavelli, who resigned in October 2008.[3] On October 15, 2009, the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary referred Gee's nomination to the full Senate. The Senate confirmed Gee by unanimous consent on December 24, 2009. On March 19, 2010, Gee was inducted to the United States District Court.

Postman if you can read and understand what you read you will understand she was NOT appointed by Clinton.
