A fire both Placer and Nevada Counties has burned 1,500 acres and forced the evacuation of roughly 50 homes, fire officials said.
We have no containment, said Lynne Tolmachoff, spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
The fire is burning to the northeast near the intersection of Lowell Hill Road and Chicago Park Powerhouse Road, in Alta. Both of those roads are closed to traffic, Tolmachoff said.
The fire is two miles from a subdivision.
Its moving at a pretty good pace, Tolmachoff said.
Evacuation are expected for a 50 home area, although the fire is now burning in a sparsely populated terrain, according to Cal-Fire.
The fire started at 2:37 p.m. Over 200 firefighters are fighting the fire and air tanker support is being brought in to control the fire, she said. Tolmachoff said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

3 hours and it's consumed 1,500 acres.
It's hot, dry and windy.
It's exploding.
Doubling every hour or two.
At that rate it could be to Reno by morning.
That fire is just north of me. I see the
smoke through the trees at the edge of my
property. Was BBQing burgers for the ATA
shoot at the Sportsmens Club & the power
went off and on near town a couple of times.
When I got home I found the power had been off
and on. The local CalFire airtankers are based
about 4 miles from my house and they have a real
quick turnaround time to a fire that close. At the
club I saw the big boy tanker based in Chico flying
overhead. Serious stuff.
“Investigators are asking the publics help in looking for a vehicle of interest that was in the area when the fire started. The vehicle is a lifted 4x4 white jeep wrangler without a top, a black roll bar and no front doors that was in the Gold Run/Dutch Flat area around 2:30pm. Anyone with information should contact the Placer or Nevada County Sheriffs Department. “
Are you near Mather?
A single match could burn all of California to the ground.
For those not as familiar with the area this fire is burning about halfway between Sacramento and Reno.
For those who know the area better, it’s above Colfax and below Baxter.
Rough terrain. On the western slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Near I-80.
I don’t know how close it is to the freeway yet.
Mather? Hell no.
Just wish I was as far away as Mather.
I am between Grass Valley and Colfax.
It's jumping a mile at a time.
Tinder dry trees as far as the eye can see.
Up here in Washington state some fire guy was talking about the conditions this summer. To the effect of “folks talk about it being like a tinder box. It’s a tinder bomb this year.”
Thanks
Lived around here mainly app 58 years.
Got a pretty handle on the drill.
Another year of Smoke, smoke, smoke! And no water to to put it out with.
On top of that, the liberals have made sure that every tax dollar has been allocated to entitlement programs instead of infrastructure rebuilding.
This state can’t take much more...
Prayers for y’all.
Might be a rough week.
4000 Ac and growing...
Thanks
Took work leave time to do family trust stuff..
...the month of July in fact. Hope I don’t
need to divert attention.
Damnit.
We don't need anymore of this.
Currently there are 88 incidents being tracked nation-wide.
