Rep. David Cicilline, D-R.I., and almost every Democrat in the House proposed a bill this week that would extend federal anti-discrimination protections to the LGBT community.
The Equality Act would ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identify in areas like housing, employment, federal funding, education, credit and jury service, according to Cicilline's website.
Cicilline's bill in the House has the support of 165 other House Democrats, and a Senate bill from Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., has 39 other Democrats on it.
"In most states, you can get married on Saturday, post your wedding photos to Facebook on Sunday, and then get fired on Monday just because of who you are," Cicilline said. "This is completely wrong. Fairness and equality are core American values."
In a separate statement, Merkley said there are still 31 states that do not have "fully-inclusive non-discrimination laws."
"It's now time to take bold legislative action and pass on to the next generation an America that is more equal, not less," Merkley said. "Every American deserves the freedom and opportunity to dream the same dreams, chase the same ambitions, and have the same shot at success."
Sen. Democratic Leader Harry Reid said the bill is "long overdue."
"The Equality Act of 2015 gives LGBT Americans the equality they deserve and protects them against discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations and other areas of law where discrimination is now openly embraced," Reid said.
Ultimately, the bill would work to ensure equal rights to all Americans regardless of sexual orientation. "No American citizen should ever have to live their lives in fear of discrimination," Cicilline said.

This, like most things, ONLY becomes an issue when govt is involved.
Yes, this is a stepping-stone, and ~100yrs too late to stop anything. We the People allowed the social/commun-ism to grow and flourish...income taxes, public schools, unions, property taxes, etc.
I’d say it was you whom were too blind to see...expecting anything less since the counter-culture revolution of the 60’s (a revolution ‘they’ won).
Ah, David Cicciwennie! I had the honour of kicking him out of my back yard when he came around my neighborhood campaigning for Mayor of Providence. He and his entourage came uninvited through the gate and into my yard where I was gardening. I walked up to him and said I’m voting for Cianci and escorted him back down my driveway. He’s a Dem so naturally in RI he won and the first thing he did was raise the rainbow flag over City Hall. They can pass all the laws they want but it doesn’t change the fact that they are an abomination.

BS. The whole “marriage” issue was non-existent 20 years ago. It was just manufactured to fake respectability and refurbish the gay image, after a decade of AIDS. Even then the gays blamed Reagan, the government, and the medical establishment for failing to pay enough attention to them. Gays back then wanted to be promiscuous; they certainly didn’t want to “get married” and “have children” and “be a family.” Children were for pedophiles, and that subject was best kept quiet. Gayness was an adult XXX lifestyle. AIDS is what put their lifestyle in the public eye.
Before the 80s, gays were around, in school and at work. Everyone knew certain people were probably homosexuals. NOBODY discriminated against gays, because NOBODY discussed ANYBODY’s sex life publicly. I NEVER saw anyone get fired for being a perceived homosexual. In fact, a “bachelor” or “single woman” was often more likely to be promoted to supervisor in particularly demanding, time- consuming occupations. To suggest gays were ever discriminated against in housing is ridiculous. A straight, unmarried couple was more likely to raise eyebrows, especially if a baby arrived before a wedding. Two guys or two girls were just roommates, sharing expenses. Nobody even thought to ask questions, because it just wasn’t polite.
Privacy laws protected everyone, including homosexuals. Nobody’s bedroom door was being kicked down. The sodomy and public indecency laws were only enforced when someone—gay or straight— was caught in flagrante in a public park or restroom.
But the gays complained about being “in the closet” because they insist it’s their “right” to do what they do publicly, in your face, and in front of children.
Now we’re being forced, in every school, workplace, housing, to have endless conversations about everyone’s sexual preferences and predelictions, and whether or not their “genitalia” is intact or altered. While OUR most private thoughts and beliefs are subjected to relentless intrusion, scrutiny, and judgement by a tiny minority of dejenerate jerks who have granted themselves absolute power over every aspect of public life and unlimited access to our children. They have granted themselves the right to harass, punish, destroy, not only those who refuse to endorse their behavior, but even those of us who just don’t want to talk about it.

One of the casualties of the Civil Rights Movement, although not enumerated in the Constitution by name, was freedom of association. One of those probably covered by the 9th and 10th Amendments, and ignored by our legal establishment.

The choice is between anarchy and civilization. Marriage= one man, one woman= civilization. The other options are simply barbarism by another name. Our courts chose barbarism.
Wishful thinking, I'm afraid. The entire propaganda machine - not just the mass media but the whole liberal establishment - has pushed this agenda so long that anybody who doubts it is treated with contempt, especially by young people.
I spent part of my youth by myself in Hollywood and there almost wasn't a day that went by without some gay trying seduce me. I have a gay brother who was seduced and he has turned into a monster himself who can't be trusted anywhere around the cousins, our children.
I agree with most of your principles except for the concept that we should just "go with the flow" and wait for somebody else to raise objections and do something.
Conservatives either have the courage and the initiative to fight - or they aren't conservatives, they're just lumps who complain after it's too late.
