[HuffPo] Mitch McConnell's Move Leaves Ted Cruz Out In The Hallway
The Huffington Post ^ | 7/24/2015 | Ali Watkins and Akbar Shahid Ahmed

Posted on 07/24/2015 7:52:53 PM PDT by VinL

Senior lawmakers and staff from the House and Senate armed services committees are hammering away on the National Defense Authorization Act, the annual bill that keeps the military up and running. But there are fewer chairs at the negotiating table this time. And committee member and presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) isn’t in one of them.

GOP leadership was worried that the notorious grandstander would tank the crucial spending bill, two sources familiar with the process told HuffPost. In an effort to keep him out of the room, they cut the membership of the conference committee -- the panel responsible for hammering out differences between the House and Senate versions of the bill -- to a smaller number than it’s been in years.

“The number of Senate conferees was cut from previous years. Typically, all members of the [Senate Armed Services Committee] are named as the Senate conferees, but that is not the case this year,” said one congressional source familiar with the process.

Both sources said they were told the conference panel was slashed in an effort to keep Cruz out of the room.

But the motive for boxing Cruz out of the end stages of the NDAA process isn’t entirely clear. After all, bombastic freshman Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) landed an appointment. Cruz voted against the bill when it passed the Senate last month, but so did several other committee members who were eventually appointed to the conference panel.

“You’d have to ask Senator McConnell. That was his decision,” Armed Services Committee Chair John McCain (R-Ariz.) said, adding that the conference process was ongoing.

There’s certainly no love lost between Cruz and Mitch McConnell, the Senate majority leader. (snip)

They don’t care about the actual politics of anything, except inasfar as it benefits their bank account, and their continued ride on the gravy train. If they can’t get a fellow GOPe elected to the Rainbow Hut, then another rat will do, but a sincere conservative would upset the gravy train for all of them.

I wish someone who could find out, would be bothered to do it. I can’t imagine who that would be, in this media climate. There are no more Woodward and Bernsteins, they’ve all sold out, now that their heroes are the establishment.

Wonder I’d McConnell is paying the Huffington post or vice versa.

The Huffpo was bought out by the DNC.

We could have been doing it, our problem is that we don’t control any of what is considered the “mainstream media”, not taxpayer-funded NPR. All our internet sources are dismissed from the leftist-controlled cabal of the “mainstream”.

McConnell and a few others probably want to freeze Ted out so they can carry on with their double-dealing and lies and charades without anyone telling the truth about those closed door meetings.

True to an extent, but I don’t think any conservative media outlets other than Rush and Levin and a few other talkers have made it a practice to label leftists the way so many of their outlets label conservatives. We could do more of it.

It has often seemed that we had a senator whose full name was Firebrand Ted Cruz, that has been used so often.

Yah, and Tom Cotton is “bombastic”.

Wonder how those asshats describe Harry R,
Nancy P, Chuckie S, Dickie D, and Maxine W?

look at McCain right in there sucking up to McConnell.

I've often posted that people forget government is a generational thing. The old men who were young men in the '60s and early '70s are giving way to the young men of the Reagan era. And they don't like it a bit.

No, it was never NOT DNC. You don’t recall its liberal blog beginnings.

Now why would LEFTISTS object to a Republican shining light on corrupt backroom dealing, unless the Leftists and the GOPe are on the same team?

Mark Levin called Cruz’ speech “iconic.” I’ve never heard a member of either party expose corrupt leadership practices on the Senate floor.

Cruz to victory!

Right. The thing is Ted Cruz has made similar speeches on the Senate floor over the last couple of years, which is why I came to support him. Finally, this one got noticed.
