If he is going to get rolled like this by a 2nd rate carny huckster like Mitch freakin McConnell, how will he do when he has to negotiate with Putin or the Chinese or really any other foreign leader? As a junior Senator, you kind of have to give the party leader a chance - until you get stabbed in the back. A foreign leader - especially a hostile and/or antagonistic one - doesn't get that "one time" courtesy.
