Ted Cruz calls Mitch McConnell a liar on the Senate floor
WashPo ^ | 7/24/2015 | M. Debonis

Firebrand Republican senator and presidential candidate Ted Cruz on Friday rushed across a line rarely crossed on the Senate floor: He called the leader of his party, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a liar.

"What we just saw today was an absolute demonstration that not only what he told every Republican senator, but what he told the press over and over and over again, was a simple lie," Cruz said Friday morning. "We know now that when the majority leader looks us in the eyes and makes an explicit commitment, that he is willing to say things that he knows are false. That has consequences for how this body operates."

Prompting Cruz's outburst: McConnell's move to set up amendment votes on a must-pass transportation bill. After senators voted to consider the bill, McConnell (R-Ky.) set up votes on two controversial measures -- a repeal of the Affordable Care Act, and a reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank of the United States -- and did it in such a way that will make it difficult for other amendments to be considered.

That move incensed Cruz -- who, like many conservatives, strongly opposes the bank's reauthorization, though it enjoys support from a supermajority of his Senate colleagues. While McConnell has personally spoken against Ex-Im reauthorization, Democrats said in June he had agreed to schedule an Ex-Im vote in order to get highly divisive trade legislation passed.

But McConnell at the time denied that any deal had been made, and Cruz said the same assurance was given in a private Republican conference meeting.

"Like Saint Peter, he repeated it three times," Cruz said Friday.

More of this is needed.

There must be more than just Senator (and future president) Cruz calling these people out.

This needs to become an inertia-building movement that will expose crooked and dishonorable members of Congress and get rid of them.

Go, Cruz!!!

Or possibly this profile in courage, without any concern over the negative impact to him personally on his roles in the U.S. Senate, will inspire 50% +1 of his fellow gOp Senators to rise up and oust Mitch in favor of a new ML.

“I don’t think the Democrats would have done that”

Uh oh.

Endorsement of Democrat economic policies is not a good thing.

(aside from the fact that his statement is nonsense as well.).

Zero chance, huh? As I recall, Ronald Reagan “didnt have a chance” either. He won the presidency twice.

Seems to me that Ted Cruz is demonstrating fearlessness. I take it he is more concerned with standing on principle than what the personal cost to him might be.

"He has zero chance at the GOP Presidential Nomination, so I don’t know where he goes from here."

Way too early to say that.

This is an excellent way to get some attention.

Kentucky should’ve dumped the POS.

Kept urging Kentuckians to vote for the Democrat (Allison Lundergan) because the only thing worse than an Enemy Democrat is a Traitor Republican.

The nation would have been better off had we chopped off that slimy bastard's political head. The other people in the Party would have got the message not to pull that McConnell bullsh*t.

Well I guess we know why he added the Obamacare amendment. To deflect heat from passing the Export-Import Bank amendment. We all knew the Obamacare amendment was theater, bad theater as usual.

A good start, but all talk.

When will anyone be recalled and indicted?

When will the Treason stop?
Not today apparently.

Definitely. Cept one wears sunglasses all the time now and one just wears regular spectacles and both always make spectacles of themselves.

This is Ted Cruz. He has no need for the Donald to “rub off” on him. Replay his Senate filibuster over the debt ceiling.

The GOP elites have kept Senator Cruz off their stage for the same reason they must keep Trump off that stage...both men are telling the truth about the issues...Mitch McConnell is a career politician making points with other like politicians....to keep his job at all costs.

Trump and Cruz make McConnell and other Politically Correct RINOs mighty nervous.

Awesome!”

No, Cruz has always been forthright, conservative, and unafraid to take a principled stand. That’s why the Media and the GOPe dislike him so.

Cruz and Trump can, and must, save our country.

WOW just WOW....

How long have you heard that on the floor of any government office....

Guess that visit he had with Trump got him going....

Trump/Cruz 2016

And the reason I say that is this:

Trump as President....a strong business man goes in and cleans up the House and Senate, knocks out all these ‘big’ government ‘nests’ does some down to earth house cleaning...

Cruz as V.P and Politician....handles the ‘politicians’ and watches Trump do his house cleaning....

Whether Trump is there for four years or eight, doesn't matter, he has things set up and rolling along...Cruz runs for POTUS and is in office....8 years of Republican POTUS or 16 years of Republican POTUS....win win for America!!!

Trump is helping Cruz, in that Trump has gotten the issues where Cruz stands out, out there in the media and to the masses.
