Amazon shares spiked in early trading Friday after the online retailer blew past quarterly earnings and revenue estimates, boosted by growth in the North American market and cloud computing segment.
Shares rose 20 percent, giving the retailer a larger market capitalization than bricks-and-mortar behemoth Wal-Mart.
The surge also generated a huge windfall for CEO Jeff Bezos, who owns 83,921,121 shares of the company. At Friday's early prices, his fortune rose some $8.05 billiona gain that by itself would be enough to put him in the world's 200 richest people.

Maybe if Walmart didn’t feel like a dollar store only dirtier it would help. Heck customer service might help too.
Amazon rocks. I love using them.
Given the choice, I’ll take Amazon.
Yeah, they support liberal causes; but, then again, so does WalMart.
Besides, unlike WalMart, I have no problem checking out when I’m through shopping at Amazon.
I noticed Amazon raised their prices too, and that if Wal-Mart has the item you can do better there, which did not used to be the case.
Compare your prices, folks!
Has Amazon ever made a profit?
The Amazon website costed 100X less than healthcare.gov and it works everytime I’ve used it.
Amazon actually made a profit?
No wonder it spiked. They’ve never been shy about plowing everything they make back into the company.
I’d probably use brick and mortar stores more if their websites actually reflected what they keep in the store. I live very near a Wal-Mart, Fry’s, Best Buy, Target, Lowes, etc. If I need something, I’ll look on their websites. However, most of these businesses have started renting out their websites to 3rd party sellers. I know Amazon does this as well (I’ve sold on it myself), but it irks me when the thing I want to buy is not actually in the store that’s near my house, but “web only”. So, generally, if I want something, and the B & M website says “web only”, I look for it on Amazon and probably get it shipped free in 2 days with my Prime membership. If I’m going to do a web purchase, I buy from Amazon.
It must be because of the stick fire tv I bought a few weeks ago.
Amazing for an enterprise that only “occasionally” turns a profit.
#4 WalMart dangerous to be around.
