It is not nearly what it was in the 80s.

MTV & VH1’s time has come and gone. They have nothing to offer in terms of programming. I can get music video on Youtube

Maybe kids don’t appreciate leftwing agitprop as much as Viacom thought.

In the 1980s, MTV was MUSIC Television: it showed MUSIC Videos.

You know ... people playing guitars, and drums, and singing? Music? Some of them even were a short movie illustrating the song. Imagine that!

Now it's mostly inane and obscene 'reality shows'.

Spike TV, I can remember when that was TNN (The Nashville Network). Not long ago, I was watching 1990s videos of TNN stuff somebody uploaded onto YouTube and feeling a little teary eyed after a while thinking about the days of when real country music and programming was on accompanied by just that little bit more sanity in American life (even in spite of WJC being in the White House).

Maybe they don’t want to watch insipid award shows with Smiley Virus hosting it.

There are various music video channels on Roku too, covering every genre. My favorite channel is VEVO. They have quite a library, going all the way back to the days when MTV first came on the air. I’ve noticed VH1 Classics has been showing less and less music videos. It used to show only one show, which happens to be “That Metal Show” and filled the rest of the day with music videos and a music themed movie every Friday night.

Good! MTV was my deal in the 80s as a teen. It was novel and fun. They jumped the shark LONG ago. Goodbye and good riddance.

Who’da thunk it? MTV started with playing music videos...very popular. Changed to lefty, liberal, trashy programming, popularity drops.

VH1 follows the music video and talk scene...does very well. Then follows MTV into the alternative programming gutter and wonders why the rating fell.

See what those programming geniuses are learning in college?

Back in the 80s, before the Internet. for a Midwestern kid it was a portal to a world of (Britpop/Europop/New Wave) music that was difficult to find in the US outside of large cities. I have good memories of MTV in the early and mid-80s.

Good, I hope it’s painful too. Having an illegal alien lecture white children on white privilege should be the last straw, if this were not a nation of bread and circuses.

Agree. Nephew is 21 and him and his friends watch almost no TV. What they do - they stream online.
