First MTV, Nickelodion, and Spike. Then defund public television & NPR. Let them stand or fall on their own.

When I first heard about MTV I thought that they would also do some classical music and opera. Boy, was I naive.

Guys like Peter Gabriel became big stars by way of MTV. It wasn’t my kind of music but I stared at it for hours on end.

Here's one of the strangest PG videos: Steam

No, it wasn’t, and “Tomato” is like “the other church in town.” I know it’s there, but won’t go to it.

My mother (a classical pianist) was hoping that would be the case, too. The first thing we saw when the cable box switched to that channel was Billy Idol's "White Wedding". Mom walked off, muttering something about getting her money back.

Now, I actually liked “Drama”, ‘Tempus Fugit’ is one of Squire’s greatest moments.

I hated it from day one. Ruined every keg party we had in college. No more talking or mingling...everyone just sat like zombies watching music videos

Now they all sit like zombies texting on their "smart" phones.

The Real World ruined MTV, the rest of television and society.

That whole "Security" album was great. Highly recommend it, more than just "Shock the Monkey" on it.

In the 80's, MTV would play music from bands and artists whose music wasn't being played on the radio. This helped some acts, like Gabriel break though to a wider audience.

Funny how many people back then didn't even realize he was the former lead singer of Genesis.

MTV can't die yet. They just renewed Teen Wolf for a 6th season.

Funny you should mention that. Guess what year Marty and Doc went forward in time to help Martys kids?

2015.

Feel old yet? I do.

They tried to bring beavis and butthead back a few years ago, with them making fun of MTV reality shows instead of videos. It lasted one season. My theory is that MTV couldn’t take how bad they were made to look, and how stupid the people are who actually watch MTV reality shows.
