According to a 2013 analysis by the Heritage Foundation, at least 20% of gas-tax revenues in recent years went toward other programs, from light rail to bike lanes to landscaping projects. Some funds even went toward establishing transportation museums.

I wonder if it’s sidewalks too- they have been installing sidewalks on US 19 here in FL that are utterly useless. You only see a hiker maybe once a day.
They also are not laid out straight but wander all over the landscape- visually pleasing in some areas, insane jinks and jags around poles here and there, a LOT of wasted material when a straight line or gentle curve would be more efficient.

Worse, they are laying them against sand embankments so every rain the sand settles down and buries them. In a season the weeds and grass can grow right over them so it is going to be a maintainance mess.
