That’s the law for both the DI and SSTFs. Benefits will be reduced to the amount of revenue received. When the SSTF runs out of T-bills in 2034, it will also be forced to reduce benefits.
And you know this how?
My husband has been on disability for eight years. He was in an accident where he was hit head on by a guy running from the cops. He is in a wheelchair, he had part of his intestines removed, has rods and pins in his pelvis and both legs and ankles. He has developed bad arthritis in his hands as well. He is lucky to be alive.
Everyone thinks it is so easy to get disability. Let me assure you it is not. He gets a little over $1,000 per month. Prior to the accident he was a machinist. He will never be able to work again.
I am so tired of people assuming they know everyone else’s situation when it comes to disability. I hope you never are in the position to need it.
Surprise. Surprise.
Obama encouraged unemployed workers to apply for Disability so Obama’s unemployment numbers did not look so bad.
Now the Disability well has run dry because of Obama’s chicanery.
Will the GOP Elite call Obama on the carpet for his tricks?
Doubt it.
Maybe the Disability Scam is the next one for Trump to highlight.
A close relative got in that trap, and when the recession hit there was no way out. The biggest problem was doctors who keep giving more medications and procedures instead of rehab and connections to getting back into the job market. The other thing disability does is makes it impossible to move, because medical treatment and benefits are tied to where the person is.
I'm not excusing those who abuse the system. But even less am I excusing the enablers who find financial benefit in the disabled staying that way.
My prayers for your husband. The program was intended for people like him.
But we all know a lot of fraudsters. One I know in particular. Started cheating on her husband after 20+ years of marriage and left him. Then suddenly decided that she had “emotional and mental issues” that prevented her from holding a job. Has pretty much set herself up to spend the rest of her life with a shacked-up honey living on his-and-her DDI checks and alimony.
Another is a union tradesman who lives up the street with a skill that could easily earn him $30-40 an hour. Instead he spends his days at home, drinking beer and watching porn. I keep seeing him working on cars and hanging Christmas lights from his roof, so no idea what his “disability” is.
Oh no. Can't blame the looters of the trust funds!
For a long time, the US military has vetted its disabled, who must be periodically re-evaluated to insure they are actually disabled. While this has the rare boo-boo, such as questioning an amputee whether they are still disabled, for the most part, it does police up many gold brickers.
No reason in the world such vetting shouldn’t be used in the civilian world. Every fraud in the system deprives the legitimately disabled of benefits.
He deserves it but you should be more upset than anybody about the leeching of the funds by the non-disabled. It is easy to get on it for some fake disability like “depression” or “addiction.” There are lawyers who specialize in it. And these layabouts are leeching the funds away from people like your husband who need it.
