SHREVEPORT, La. - The man who brought a concealed handgun into a military recruiting station in southwest Shreveport on Tuesday had no intention of hurting anyone, police said, but instead was upset over a shooting at a Tennessee military facility and brought the gun in a misguided attempt to be helpful.

When I first saw this story on my local broadcast TV news station, I thought that this must be just some weird fluke. David Quinn was arrested by local police after being called by an Army recruiter. His alleged “crime”: offering a handgun to the Army recruiters for their own self defense! But instead of politely refusing his offer and asking him to maybe just go away, the Army recruiters DETAINED him until police arrived. He has now been charged with illegally concealing a firearm!

At first, I wasn’t going to post this news. But after reading the outrageous news that Army brass have instructed recruiters that legally armed civilians providing protective patrols should be considered as a possible security threat, I feel forced to reveal that our Army now considers us civilians as a possible enemy. Un… Freaking… Real…

One commenter said “Maybe he was ‘shooting hoops’ earlier and forgot where he had put the gun.

Well, I’ll give him points for creativity. How about hiding a fragmentation round in a soccer ball?

Granted that Mr. Quinn didn’t take the smartest approach, but I think it was still totally unnecessary to detain him and call the cops…

American citizens are obviously NOT the enemy… Islamic terrorist are…

For some reason the Monty Python skit ‘How to defend yourself from a banana’ comes to mind.

Well I’m happy to say that the Army ass, er sorry Brass that put this out there is being ignored in some states.
In WV there are still civilians standing post with openly displayed weapons (AR-15’s in most cases) in front of recruiting centers.

Yes, that is a good thing...

I’ve seen several recent news reports that armed civilians have extended protection to several more recruiter locations.

If I’m working one of these places, anyone outside uninvited with a gun is a target

Agreed. Sounds like this guy had good intentions. They could have told him so while explaining to him why his gesture was not a good idea.

Perhaps they were following orders. I suppose it is entirely possible that they did not want to detain him but were worried that his attempt was some sort of set-up. With cell phone video everywhere, who knows what sorts of sting operations can be carried out?
