No the plane beside McCain was hit McCain's plane was in fact not hit by the missile. I've heard them all including he hit the afterburner and caused it. Look at the plane spotting chart on the link I posted. That chart was not changeable after the incident. Look where the launch came from, the positions of the planes in relation to others, and you'll see it was not his fault.
I’ll take your word for it as you sound knowledgeable about it, as do some others who have replied here. Then how did it get on WIKI Answers? There are so many stories out there about McCain during the Viet Man war years that it is very difficult to separate truth from fiction.
