Instead of getting frustrated and, in OMalleys case, saying White lives matter, presidential wannabes OMalley and Sanders should have been much more politically savvy when they were confronted by #BlackLivesMatter activists at Netroots Nation.
Being a politician is a tough job because unless youre in a dictatorship, of royalty or Dr. Doom, you actually have to deal with dissent, disagreement and protests from the people you rule. Is it fun? Of course not, but just about every elected official in America, right or left, has to deal with it. President Barack Obama got heckled by an undocumented transgender woman in his own house. Somebody threw a shoe at George W. Bush. And dozens of members of Congress got screamed at during the town halls leading up to the passage of Obamacare.
However, dealing with protesters and hecklers is part of the job, a job that apparently Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Gov. Martin OMalley are woefully unprepared for, based on their inept reactions to #BlackLivesMatter protests during the Netroots Nation conference last week.
Political hindsight is 20-20, but there were about a half-dozen ways each candidate could have handled last weeks events better than he did. Perhaps if we use the wayback machine, we can point out to both Sanders and OMalley how they should have handled things last week and how to interact with #BlackLivesMatter protests in the future.
Name: Martin OMalley
Résumé: Former governor of Maryland and former mayor of Baltimore
Biggest mistake: Forgetting where he came from
What happened: Martin OMalley was onstage in the Phoenix Convention Center at Netroots Nation, taking questions from Jose Antonio Vargas, and doing reasonably well, when the #BlackLivesMatter protesters began chanting and marching toward the stage. They immediately began chanting, Say her name, and asking that OMalley repeat the names of Rekia

They didn’t botch anything. The black groups eventually will have to accept that they cannot be the only receiver of public sympathy and compassion. Sorry, but they just can’t!
The leaders of these groups need to grow up, man up and open up to the admission that we all matter, we all need each other, regardless of race.
If black lives matter they should stop killing each other.
I think it will be the opposite: white people will have to accept that their lives don't matter. Just like we accepted that gay and transgender people are better than straights.
“If black lives matter they should stop killing each other. . .”
And aborting their children.
I find it interesting that when you tell liberals that more whites were killed by police than blacks they respond with the percentage of whites vs. blacks. Yet when you tell them the percentage of black vs. white violent crime you hear crickets.
How they should have responded is invoking the very words of Martin Luther King. I doubt that would have made them shut the hell up, but they would have looked better for it. Instead, O’Malley gives a mewling, pathetic apology for it.
Or, that the number of black babies aborted vs ALL other races, is substantially higher....doesn’t seem to *matter* much to their community.
What he should have done would have instantly made him the front-runner, possibly in the entire field, and salvaged white support of the Democrats.
He should have stuck to his guns and said all lives matter. Then he should have pointed out the hypocrisy of the movement by their refusal to address black-on-black crime and abortion.
And anyway, being a socialist means never having to say you're sorry.
This was interesting:
As I told one of Sanders campaign staffers, About 25 percent of black Twitter is hereyou probably want to fix this and soon. Sanders did nothing ...
He didn't jump when some unknown blogger started giving his people orders?
Included.
Agreed. I just extended your line item a little.
Thanks - I had an appropriate visual but have to dig it out.
O’Malley is a mangina.
Picture a new tee - A large angry woman grinding her boot into O'Malley's face for eternity... while slamming a fist into Bernie Sanders stomach...
O'Malley's expression one of groveling...
Sanders's image has a bubble saying, "But I worked for Civil Rights for 30 years". POW! SOK! POW!
Is this great? Should I get a copyright before they steal it?
(Tee available in black and red - and red and black...)
Virtually impossible. One thing I've noticed over the past fifty years is that for these people, there are no other issues except for what affects their group. Blacks like the ones at the meeting and the commenters on the article couldn't care less if the rest of the world died off...only they matter.
Actually, the Dem constituency is comprised of similar groups: radical feminists only care about rad. feminist issues...radical homos only care about homo issues...green nazis only care about their issues...ditto for all the other Dem groups.
Being a politician is a tough job...protests from the people you “RULE”. ?????????
Well said!
