Lawyer: Threat widens in federal gun grab (Who will be next?)
WND ^ | July 21, 2015 | Bob Unruh

Vets targeted, then Social Security recipients, then those with student loans and ...

It began with letters from the Veterans Administration informing returning veterans they were being declared incompetent and someone would be appointed to handle their financial affairs.

The veterans then were told they, consequently, could no longer own weapons.

Now the same plan is being considered for recipients of Social Security, the Los Angeles Times said.

The paper said the Obama administration is pushing to ban Social Security beneficiaries from owning guns if they “lack the mental capacity to manage their own affairs.”

The report describes to the letter the VA plan reported by WND.

Michael Connelly of the United States Justice Foundation has been working on the VA case since several veterans contacted him to say they had been determined incompetent without so much as a hearing and wanted to fight back. According to the Social Security plan, the federal benefit recipients would be told they are incompetent and can no longer have weapons. Then their names would be added to the National Instant Criminal Background Check system, which is used by governments to try to keep weapons out of the hands of felons, drug addicts, illegal aliens and others.

Targeted would be Social Security beneficiaries who have “marked subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease.”

An estimated 4.2 million adults get Social Security payments that are managed by “representative payees.”

The Times said the move is part of a concerted effort by the Obama administration after the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, to strengthen gun control.

After Congress shot down virtually every legislative change Obama wanted, the president began to makes changes through rewriting rules and definitions.

“An estimated 4.2 million adults get Social Security payments that are managed by “representative payees.”

This was discussed on a previous thread. One freeper (lawyer I’m guessing) said that he has been the “representative payee” for hundreds of clients - usually with relatives or caretakers that can’t be trusted. So nothing to do with their mental capacity. I imagine things such as trust funds might be involved as well.

This article seems to imply the feds can supersede the state.

Well, they just did over homo marriage.

We're back to trying to reign in the FedGov power usurpation, only the SCOTUS is ignoring the instruction book.

This, too, raises the spectre of what the rules will be in States which have legalized pot (despite Federal Laws against that).

Will medical MJ be a disqualifier?

Also, antidepressants had passed all other classes of meds as the most prescribed. Why are antidepressants the most prescribed drug in the U.S.?

"So what's the reason behind the rising number of antidepressant prescriptions? One reason is that, despite their name, antidepressants are not prescribed solely for depression anymore. They are also used to treat chronic pain, anxiety, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and even eating disorders."

With so many taking medication and the huge lists of potential complications which include depression, suicidal thoughts, violent episodes, etc., (not to mention what minutiae may considered to constitute "violence" or "abuse") how long will the list be, and will it be just for the people taking specific drugs for specific reasons, or for anyone taking those drugs?

Will that apply to anyone who has ever been bummed but not medicated?

Considering that "normal" is a statistical manifestation which can be narrowed to a ridiculously small proportion of the population, the brush painting people as unfit could be very broad indeed.

These are just test cases to see if receiving government "largess" can have a price tag of removal of Constitutional protections - hardly a soul in the Nation that they can't deem as receiving some sort of government "benefit", and therefore fair game.

They are trying to take the fast route to absolute despotism - Citizen? No rights for you!

Communist Goals (1963) Congressional Record—Appendix, pp. A34-A35 January 10, 1963

38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].

39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.

I don’t recall any of these Sandy Hook-type massacres being perpetrated by geezers.

If the Obamao administration is truly for stopping Sandy Hook-type massacres, they should confiscate guns from all the muslims . . . just to be safe, don’tcha know.

PING!

I suspect there are plenty of gun owners of all ages who, for the life of them, cannot balance a checkbook. Do we confiscate their weapons on the basis of their so-called incompetency?

They don’t call it a Civil Defense force, that would imply we need (or perhaps that we deserve) defense. The official name is National Civilian Community Corps.

I think of it as the NatCCC, or more simply, as the NatCs...

Of course it will be tied to voter registration. If you vote Republican you can’t be trusted. You fly a confederate flag? Obviously you can’t be trusted. Your white? Well come on.

Did you see what they did to Dinesh D’Souza?

Lots of old people may need help “managing their affairs” (I had to help my mom remember to pay the bills on time every month) while being perfectly competent to defend themselves from intruders.
