Many, many years ago I was solicited to become a member in the KKK. Big sales pitch. When I told them I was Catholic the sight of their dropped jaws was something to behold. You would have thought I said that I was part Kenyan!
My understanding is that his work with the early KKK was more in the nature of resistance to Reconstruction and that later in life he advocated reconciliation of the races.
That being said, that is a really ugly statue.
There are over a hundred buildings, roads, bridges, and university departments named after Robert Byrd in WV. Why isn’t the Left bringing this up?
