#BlackLivesMatter: the birth of a new civil rights movement
The Manchester Guardian ^ | July 19, 2015 | Elizabeth Day

Alicia Garza was in a bar in Oakland, California, drinking bourbon when the verdict came in. It was July 2013 and she had been following the trial of George Zimmerman, a neighbourhood watch volunteer in Sanford, Florida, who had shot dead a 17-year-old African-American by the name of Trayvon Martin in February of the preceding year. Martin had been unarmed, on his way back from a 7/11 convenience store where he had just bought himself an iced tea and a bag of Skittles.

There had, of course, been shootings of young black men before. But this one had a particular resonance. Garza had a younger brother of a similar height and build to Martin. She felt it could just as easily have been him.

In the bar, Garza, her husband and her two friends had been checking their phones for updates from the trial. The jury had been deliberating for 16 hours on Zimmerman’s fate. When the verdict was announced, she learned of it first through Facebook: not guilty of second degree murder and acquitted of manslaughter.

“Everything went quiet, everything and everyone,” Garza says now. “And then people started to leave en masse. The one thing I remember from that evening, other than crying myself to sleep that night, was the way in which as a black person, I felt incredibly vulnerable, incredibly exposed and incredibly enraged. Seeing these black people leaving the bar, and it was like we couldn’t look at each other. We were carrying this burden around with us every day: of racism and white supremacy. It was a verdict that said: black people are not safe in America.”(continued)

Mr. Zimmerman is about 20% black, also.

America, 2015: Don’t attack guys smaller than you without legal cause and you probably won’t get capped.

#BlackLivesMatter: the birth of a new civil rights movement

Tell 'em to get off their a$$, get off the welfare and drugs, and DO SOMETHING to elevate yourself and your current situation.

Whether you're in da hood or wherever... take a step toward ASSUMING RESPONSIBILITY for your life.

That, my friends, is the only thing that will make "Black Lives Matter"

Zimmerman not guility. “The one thing I remember from that evening, other than crying myself to sleep that night, was the way in which as a black person, I felt incredibly vulnerable, incredibly exposed and incredibly enraged. . . . We were carrying this burden around with us every day: of racism and white supremacy. It was a verdict that said: black people are not safe in America.” . . . “I have to be honest,” she says. “I feel like I live in a constant state of rage and I think a lot of black people do… It’s more than depressing to me. It makes me angry, particularly when people try to deny it’s happening.”

Black people not safe to kill whites without being challenged? Is this satire?

She flies into a rage that a white has the right to kill to avoid being killed?

Wow.. I believe it.. the FBI UCR, NIBRS, and Dept. of Justice NVCS crime figures document black rage. here,

FBI Table 6 homicides show black-on-white homicides more than double white-on-black. And whites outnumber blacks by at least six-to-one.

Its a new era of black irrationality. Just about every one of the people killed was fighting with police or assaulting someone. Being “unarmed” is irrelevant when trying to kill someone with your bare hands or taking their weapon. Black people used to understand justifiable homicide, now they think they shouldn’t be held responsible for anything.

I’ll point this out...for a black guy to get shot by a Confederate Flag-waving nutcase....it’s a billion to one shot. For a black guy to get shot by another black guy, it’s a one in a ten-thousand chance. Big difference. And if you added the feature of an urban black guy in Memphis after 11PM out and about, it’s about a one in a thousand chance of getting shot.

“Everything went quiet, everything and everyone,” Garza says now. “And then people started to leave en masse. The one thing I remember from that evening, other than crying myself to sleep that night, was the way in which as a black person, I felt incredibly vulnerable, incredibly exposed and incredibly enraged."

Garza instead should have felt ignorant, betrayed, and misled by the race-baiters she was apparently getting her "facts" from. Apparently, she missed out on the small detail that this young man attacked Zimmerman, knocked him to the ground, and was bashing Zimmerman's head against the ground repeatedly. Zimmerman, then, like any intelligent human being, defended himself with a totally legitimate use of deadly force.

These poeple act like they can simply imagine some alternate reality, and then they're entitled to be offended when the actual facts disagree with their fanciful delusions.

Remember early on in that case, when all the black leaders were just saying "All we want is a fair trial"?

Well, they got their fair trial: the facts were aired, justice was served by Zimmerman's acquittal, and it turns out, in view of the facts, that this young punk basically brought on his own death. How? By initiating a violent assault against somebody. Those who take such actions should always expect to lose life or limb as a result.

In a Free society, a person is not required to submit to a a life-threatening beatdown. In a Free society, the friends, relatives, and racial brethren of people who initiate such assaults should not be surprised when they end up dead. The young man, subscribing to a destructive and false "thug" paradigm, acted diametrically in opposition to civilized society, and thus made a mistake which cost him his life.

The lesson gained here should be that, when you assault somebody, this sort of thing can and will happen. And the way to prevent such things is not to initiate assaults. Failing to energetically rebuke such thinking on the part of youth is the real crime, and it occurs every day.

Civilized society has a very ancient, straightforward notion called "self-defense". Live it. Learn it. Love it. Or die by it.

In the Collectivist Tyrannies of Europe, this concept has been abandoned. That is of little concern to those who would rather be Free.

The sooner the black community is disabused of their outlandish fantasies regarding objective reality and the absolute right to self-defense, the sooner we will make real progress in race relations in this country.

Defending oneself against criminal assault is not "White Privilege", but rather "Unalienable Rights".

The article above is the height of hysterical, socialist, alternate universe propaganda and has to have been written either in Europe or the Northeast.

Black lives do indeed matter! So it's time for black parents, family, and community leaders to educate their young men on how to maximize the quality and length of their "black lives", about the reality of the right to self-defense, and to not be apologists for behavior which will invariably lead to so many young men's "black lives" being needlessly cut short.

...Martin had been unarmed attempted to murder Zimmerman, using PERSONAL WEAPONS

According to the FBI, hundreds (or thousands) of people are murdered each year by "personal weapons" (the FBI's term).

Personal weapons include such things as fists, hands, elbows, feet, etc.

"Unarmed", my 455.

It got discredited because the Left’s objective is to keep the black underclass continuously pissed so they can cling to power.

If black lives really mattered, the best place to fix that problem would be in Chicago. How many blacks have been killed by whites versus how many blacks have been killed by other blacks in the “windy city”.

I have NO SYMPATHY for such stupidity when the whiners talk about T. Martin, he caused his own death. It just so happened that Martin chose the wrong person (who was more black than white) when he attacked.

“There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs-partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs. ~ Booker T. Washington (1856-1915.) ~ Educator, Author, Civil Rights Leader

The lucrative race-grievance industry and Obama-Holder demagogues have been around a long time. Apparently the race-grievance industry is offering franchises.

Yep, like Neal Boortz said. He watches Cops because he likes seeing more minorities on television.
