I hear you. Trump made a stupid statement but those who took it in context know he was singling out McCain,,not every military person who was captured.

If EVERYONE captured is automatically a hero,,what does that make Bergdahl?

John McCain only cares about John McCain. I respect what he did in the military but that guy lost his conscience a long time ago and makes a great case for voter-imposed term-limits. (I used to be a big mandatory term-limits guy. Nope, we’re going to have the same idiotic government until people smarten up. Want term-limits? Quit voting the same idiots in.)

McCain needs to put a lid on as much of this as he can. There have always been POWs who were there when he was and will cross the street rather than greet him now.

He doesn’t want someone with Trumps resources and determination looking into what really happened in VN. I would like to see a thorough vetting but McCain will be sorry.

And the obnoxiousness of Trump’s statement will not necessarily affect his poll numbers the opposite might even occur. And that’s fine. McCain is awful. But the true sensitivity to veterans or lack thereof is as easily detected as any other insult, for instances, ‘eh, shaddup, he threw money at you’, a typical piling on attitude he’ll do well to avoid fostering. Vets are not impressed. Sorry

Yeah, I don’t know why groups are owed an apology every time somebody says something that they don’t agree with. As a veteran myself, a lot of us need to get over ourselves.

Watch the video. There is also a whole thread on it on the main forum.

Trump said, he is not a war hero..... he is a hero because he was captured. I say McCain is not a hero, but a POW survivor. Period.

Trump made a true statement, but the media won’t be drawing pictures of the truth by showing the video, or the transcript.

IMHO I tend to agree; however, some POWs; i.e., people that were captured, deserve much admiration. Such as the late Sen. Jerimiah Denton. I had the pleasure of speaking to the great man via a talkshow — asking him a question.

Trump is going to come out on top on this one. He may be alluding to some McCain skeletons with his comments.

People demanding an apology weren’t going to vote for him anyway. We are in a life or death struggle for the country, and I don’t care about anyone’s fake outrage of the week.

“You’re confusing “hero” with the concept of “respect.””

I’m not confusing anything.

Did you notice I said Trump was a draft dodger? That used to mean A LOT to people that called themselves “conservatives.”

Did you notice where I said Trump has been on every side of every issue? That used to mean a LOT to people that called themselves “conservatives.”

I’m too old, experienced, infused with too much good judgment and common sense, to engage in this mindless fad driven flavor-of-the-week business.

I have no respect for Trump. That he was born rich, supposedly kept himself rich by serial bankruptcies, is known as a braggart, a blowhard, is no basis for him to become the Republican candidate for President.

I respect the service but being a POW or some other type of detainee does not automatically qualify a person for “hero” status.

Any candidate who condemns Trump for this is out in my opinion.

I have the same opinion, and I'll add any Party, any business, and any public figure.

Let’s see when John apologizes to the families of the still missing in Vietnam

As a US senator McCain was quite instrumental in LEAVING OTHERS BEHIND especially when in a rush to open normal trade relations with Vidtnam .... And who got ric h from that?

Who has gotten more hugs from John McCain? The families of the Mia’s or his Vietnamese torturer?

Are you familiar with and respect “Rolling Thunder”? Read what their founder thought about John McCain.

I know what he said otherwise I would not comment on it.

I am lambasted on Free Republic for, while supporting Trump, pointing out where he insulted a group of wonderful men an insult that Trump easily and understandably overlooked

And I am attacked

If this is the way a Trump presidency will go, it sounds like a dictatorship trading one for another. Watch out

“he could have been released but stayed with his fellow Americans in the POW camp”

I don’t believe him. He made 32 war propaganda films for the Vietnam. McCain owes the POWs and MIA families an apology, NOT Trump. If the Vietnamese had considered releasing him early, then he really couldn’t take the offer, and expect to have a good career on his return. And if they really considered freeing him, then he wasn’t being tortured like the rest of the POWs. Makes sense if he made 32 damaging films for the North Vietnamese.

He was the main reason that we did not hold the North Vietnamese responsible for getting our MIAs back or at least finding out what happened to them. I still remember when the families of MIAs turned their backs on him to show how they felt about this man.

John McCain Exposed By Vietnam Vets And POWs

There’s more than his POW days that are suspicious about McCain.

Did John Mccain Blow up the USS Forrestal Aircraft carrier
http://www.topix.com/forum/who/cnn/TIPHLLITR99DU2OKV

His father was in charge of the Forrestal investigation.

I forget how many planes this man crashed. If he wasn’t an admiral’s son, he probably would have been stopped from flying ever again.

Define 'draft dodger'.

Define 'tax dodger'

You only have to be a fireman (with more days off than on) if you want to be called a hero these days.
