12-year-old assaulted outside Pasco library (18 year old BOY?)

You would normally consider a library a safe place for kids, right?

Unfortunately, one Pasco County mother learned the hard way that's not always the case.

Her 12-year-old son reported to supervisors that an 18-year-old boy was pointing a knife at him and others inside Regents Park Library.

But what that supervisor did next could have cost the little boy his life.

So when is an 18 year old with a knife, a boy?

18 year olds, are by definition, adults. They can marry, sign contracts, join the military, smoke tobacco, etc.

True that an 18 y/o is considered an adult.

Don’t know if law in TX has changed, but when I married at 19 and wife at 17 the law required signed permission by parents.

I was active duty Navy at the time and we married about 3 days before her HS graduation.

Was a really bad decision on my part. Only lasted about 8 years. Wife #2 and I lasted more than 25 years!

Probably because she was 17. I needed my parent’s signature to join the Army Delayed Entry Program at 17 but just my own to go active duty a year later.

I know it is sad, but nowadays, that is the first thing I look for.

WTF?? They name the victim but do not mention the name of the 18 yo adult that was arrested.

They don't mention the librarian's name either.

I found him. He was charged with AGG ASSAULT W/ DEADLY WEAPON and spent a night in jail released the next day on $2500 bond.

Sounds like the 12-year-old went to the librarian and complained that the 18-year-old threatened him with a knife. In response, the librarian kicked them all out of the library — the 12-year-old and 18-year-old — whereupon the 18-year-old continued to threaten the 12-year-old.

Grossly negligent on the part of the librarian! She needed to call 911. If the 12-year-old had been killed, it ought to be upon the head of the library's jurisdiction and taxpayers!

A neighboring town has a library where some children head after school (as an unpaid daycare) and wait for their parents to get home from work; they are disruptive, but I couldn’t see any being tossed out after being threatened with a knife...

Being that this librarian works with kids, doesn't that make her a "mandated reporter?" If she notices anything unusual about the kids, such as evidence of abuse, or violent behavior, I would think she's mandated by law to contact CPS and/or law enforcement. This library is in New Port Richey, near the Social Security and VA offices. And the fact they didn't identify the suspect, even though he's 18 makes me wonder if he's "just starting to turn his life around". AHEM! COUGH COUGH!

Same with me; enlisted in the Navy at 17 right out of high school, and needed the parental signature. Turned 18 in the last few weeks of boot camp.
