Fear quickly came over Rogers, but he knew what he had to do. The gun-carrying veteran pulled his weapon on the robber. "And when I did, he looked over at me and turned my way and I fired a shot. And he grabbed his side and then I fired two more shots before he got out the door," said Rogers.
Two of the shots hit 18-year old Devin Burton. Burton got into a car driven by, 17-year old Marleigh Agner, and the couple took off down Denham Road, but Burton's condition worsened so they stopped to call 911.
Rogers and the clerk also called 911 and responding deputies quickly pieced together the crime and the call from Denham Road.
The clerk and customer are both thankful to be alive and uninjured. "Well, I was hoping nothing like this would ever happen, but I was glad I had my weapon with me," Rogers said.
A weapon Rogers says every legal gun owner should have on them, as well.
Hooray!!
Not a fun day for the nicely ventilated purp. Oh well...
Nice shooting on the part of the Vet, but the robber was no “...gentleman holding a pistol on the clerk,...”
With so many folks carrying, it’s starting get unsafe to be a criminal, especially stupid ones.
A nice story from the local AO.
Just wait, I am sure there is a Cynthia McKinney in Congress just waiting to put forward a bill to protect these young princes of the urban jungle.
“Civil Rights Act of 2016”
“A bill stating that no one, especially poor victims of oppression, should have to fear being shot by a racist cracker when he is attempting to obtain monies to purchase essential necessities for his family. Crack, marijuana and forty ounce Colt 45.?
Sad to say, I don’t think this qualifies for a sarcasm tag.
Young guys that think they’re tough, find out too late that others actually are.
This kid could have been somewhere having good clean fun with friends. Instead he decided to intrude in others space to rob them. Unfortunate.
I look at criminals as people who force themselves on others. The victims didn’t go out of their way to cause trouble.
I give a lot of leeway to a guy defending himself. Home intruders are just out of luck with me. I don’t care if the home-owner fears for his life or not. If someone comes into your home uninvited, it’s simply open season as far as I am concerned.
If they don’t want to be taken as ducks in a shooting gallery, don’t enter someone’s home. Nobody is coming after you. You’re the ones going out of your way to find trouble.
Sadly, you’re probably right.
This Vietnam Vet also carries, never looking for a confrontation but ready if it happens.
I'll bet his adrenalin was flowing.
Thank you, Mr. Rogers. The town needs to have a Mr. Rodgers Appreciation Day.
A “gentleman”? No.
An armed society is a polite society.
Don't f%^& around in Mr. Roger's neighborhood.
Was thinking the same thing.
The perp is still alive. Only downside to a generally happy ending.
Interestingly, the following portion of the text report was omitted from the broadcast video:
“People are just sick of people running them up,” said Turner Co. Sheriff Andy Hester. “And robbing, and stealing, and pillaging, and people are tired of it. These people that’ll go out and do this kind of stuff need to realize- it ain’t always gonna fare to their favor, just because they’re a predator.”
The Sheriff’s remarks were probably edited out due to time considerations, no doubt.
Yeah, no doubt.
I'll add my AMEN to that.
