Gov. Scott Walker and other Republican presidential hopefuls have finally had it with Donald Trump.
Wisconsin's Republican governor had repeatedly said he wouldn't criticize the billionaire real estate mogul or other 2016 GOP candidates, but that changed Saturday after Trump took his feud with Arizona Sen. John McCain to a new level.
"He's not a war hero," Trump told the crowd at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa. "He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren't captured."
Walker promptly tweeted, "Just told a crowd in Sioux City: @SenJohnMcCain is an American hero."
And Kirsten Kukowski, a Walker campaign spokeswoman, followed up with another tweet adding that Walker said "I unequivocally denounce him" for attacking an American hero.
Other Republican candidates were also quick to condemn Trump's comments.
"John McCain is an American hero," Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal tweeted. "After Donald Trump spends six years in a POW camp, he can weigh in on John McCain's service.
Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and others joined in with swift, sharp criticism of Trump's latest attack on McCain.
Walker had vowed not to criticize, or try to speak for, Trump or other GOP contenders.
"What I've said is that Donald Trump can speak for himself," Walker told reporters after addressing supporters at an Iowa ballpark Friday. "I'm going to answer questions about my positions, not about Donald Trump's or Jeb Bush's or Marco Rubio or anybody else out there."
But on Saturday, Walker called for Trump to apologize to McCain.. "He needs to apologize to Senator McCain and all the other men and women who have worn the uniform," Walker told reporters following a campaign stop in Sioux City. "It's just a disgrace."

AMES, Iowa (CNN) Ted Cruz was unambiguous in his praise of John McCain on Saturday, calling his fellow senator a “hero” soon after Donald Trump made inflammatory remarks about the Arizona senator’s war record.
But the senator from Texas refused to join other 2016 Republican hopefuls in denouncing the real estate mogul.
Ethanol.

He has sucked the oxygen out of the GOPe.
Thanks Trump for outing the RINO sympathizers and their allegiances.
“He needs to apologize to Senator McCain and all the other men and women who have worn the uniform,”
Trump was talking about Juan McCain. Any effort to inflate this beyond that scope, and include “all the other men and women who have worn the uniform” is pure deception.
walker would have been wiser to take the same line cruz took: “I’m not going to play the MSM’s game and get into republican-on-republican violence”.
also, it’s hard to touch that ridiculous circus called the trump campaign without becoming one of the clowns.
Walker just definitively established himself as a “Party Man.”
The media sets the bait, the candidates, save Cruz swallow it, and the Republican field annihilates itself. I had hoped Walker was a little smarter.
When will these idiots learn they are being used against each other so the Democrats can remain squeaky clean?
Look at all the GOP Presidential wannabes dancing to the tune called by the media.
Sickening.
It’s down to Trump and Cruz for me.
Looks like the dummy fell force the msm gimmick.
These clowns in the GOPe don’t get it! One of the biggest reasons for Trump’s rise is his messaging. He is setting the tone and manhandling the media! He doesn’t buy into the liberal narratives and premises and he’s blunt. People like that, they’re sick and tired of focus-driven, poll-watching politicians playing identity politics. Especially the GOP, who should know better.
Well Scotty finally speaks. Hey Scotty ask Ross Perot or the guys who were with McCain in the Hanoi Hilton what they think.
If Walker thinks throwing in with Rick Perry is going to get him votes he’s dumber than I thought.
Looks like the GOPe is turning blue. I say it is time to remove them from life support.
They are all losing to Trump in the polls.
At least the choices are clear!
“It appears Gov. Walker has taken an unequivocal stance on this issue-—— for now.”
Most of us supporting Trump/Cruz expected something like this out of Walker, give what we’ve learned about him in the past few weeks. He started off with so much potential - very sad.
