The fathers of our nation George Washington and Thomas Jefferson recognized the inherent danger of “entangling alliances”. Too bad our modern day politicians are too clueless and naive (and too bought off). Most are either too corrupt or too stupid. Up until WW2 we refused to enter into alliances with any nation.

“Alliances, we had always felt, were not our sort of thing. They would involve us in obscure quarrels and sordid rivalries which were none of our concern. They seemed to be both undesirable and unnecessary in view of our special geographic and political circumstances.”

Amen and you could add Eisenhower’s warning about the military industrial complex. [See Wikipedia article]. There are a lot of pressures on Congress to opt for war.
