I don’t believe Trumps comment ‘about McCain’ is affecting the POW’s One bit....they’re not taking it personally IMO.........their skin is not that thin or they couldn’t have endured.

McCain on the other hand....well...he’s a traitor regardless so his years ago past has no bearing on the present. He’s a traitor today.

We (Trump supporters and cheated Republicans) fully expect a third party and hopefully, the rebuilding of the country and way of life us older people took for granted before 1964

There are approximately 50 3rd parties, join one if that will make you feel better.

The last time there was a 3rd party bid that did reasonably respectable was Perot, and all he managed to do was throw the 92 and maybe the 96 election to Clinton. I fully expect Trump to start threatening an indie bid, and he will fail just as all the others do. The most he will do is sucker a few % of right leaning voters from the GOP - which hopefully isn't enough to hand the election to Hillary. Personally I don't even think he can do that much.

Well, we will all wait with baited breath and see what happens. It wasn’t just the McCain comment, it was the one about the people who were captured that will do in the Don.

Trump is already defending himself on the comment. That's better than apologizing. I also notice that his opponents are getting more hysterical. I suspect they have just as much chance of overstepping as Donald.

The McCain comment isn’t the real issue. Trump could apologize to McCain personally for that gaffe.

It’s the next comment he made about POW’s that will sink him. Sorry, but Politics can turn on a dime.

Trump went from Hero to Zero in three seconds.

Does anyone here have any Ideal how Trump can put this behind him? I don’t and I would have liked Trump to the Cruz’s V.P. choice.

What is he saying to defend himself?

Unfortunately, everything he was talking about will be set aside and McCain will reap the benefit.

Not so, as I have illustrated in replies #60 & 88, etc..

All Trump needs to do, is to attack in his usual strident fashion, on the disproportion between trading insults with an insulting bully--playground stuff--and the real military issue, I suggest.

Under the ineffective influence of Karl Rove, Republicans have lost the art of knowing how to hit back in ways that actually influence others. But Trump and Ted Cruz understand how to focus others. Just watch what is coming.

Ugh, now he’s going to clog up that thread as well with two dozen more “He’s finished! He’s toast!” posts.

If you want to talk about somebody who really hurt POWs...

The War Secrets Sen. John McCain Hides
Former POW Fights Public Access to POW/MIA Files - Sydney Schanberg

Hurdles and limitations

Finally, in addition to these hurdles and limitations, the McCain act does not specifically order the declassification of the information. Further, it provides the Defense Department with other justifications for withholding documents. One such clause says that if the information “may compromise the safety of any United States personnel … who remain not accounted for but who may still be alive in captivity, then the Secretary [of Defense] may withhold that record or other information from the disclosure otherwise required by this section.”

Boiled down, the preceding paragraph means that the Defense Department is not obligated to tell the public about prisoners believed alive in captivity and what efforts are being made to rescue them. It only has to notify the White House and the intelligence committees in the Senate and House. The committees are forbidden under law from releasing such information.

McCain goes further to hurt future POWs...

Another bill gutted in 1996

And then there is the Missing Service Personnel Act, which McCain succeeded in gutting in 1996. A year before, the act had been strengthened, with bipartisan support, to compel the Pentagon to deploy more resources with greater speed to locate and rescue missing men. The measure imposed strict reporting requirements.

McCain amended the heart out of the statute. For example, the 1995 version required a unit commander to report to his theater commander within two days that a person was missing and describe what rescue and recovery efforts were underway. The McCain amendments allowed 10 days to pass before a report had to be made.

I think unless everyone jumps on Rick Perry’s coattails, Trump will be fine. He has gone on record at every meeting or interview that I have heard that he loves the military and loves our vets and that we need to take care of them.

I haven’t seen a lot of POW’s claiming they are war heros as John McCain has done. And I’ll bet if you polled a bunch of old vets, they have no love for McCain.

Thanks! That is by the same author with much of the same material but it appears to be a different work up of it. I had not seen that before.

I can’t stand John McCain. He should have been retired years ago. That doesn’t change Trump’s stupid statement by lumping all POWs with him.

“Trump has it basically right: McCain deserves scorn. He has harmed this nation. For decades. Having been a POW does not absolve the man of the guilt of being hurtful to American values.”

Exactly! This BS about getting a pass as a “war hero” is just that. McCain evidently couldn’t fly his way out of a paper bag (he had already lost three other aircraft). The fact that he was tenacious enough to survive being a POW doesn’t entitle him to use a wrecking ball on our country.

So, you admit you are a Republican LEMMING. You will vote for anyone they run? You will complain if they win they do just the opposite that they told you? The next time around you will vote for them again regardless as to what lies they bait you with?

It’s voters like you that are responsible for where we are now...not the Democrats. Granted they hate the American way of life and embrace liberalism and Marxist ways and “make no bones about it.” The Republicans on the other hand love power and money over anything else and would sell you, your kin, and anyone and everyone who voted for them for a few pieces of gold.

I guess you think that this time it will be different. It’s possible (but highly unlikely) if Ted Cruz gets elected but they will block him on each and every bill he championed or desires to pass muster in Congress.

You are blind and deaf if you can’t see that the Republican party left us many, many years ago and they BANK on voters like you to keep them in office for fear of losing.

Whether or not you like it, you are a republican “Lifer” and blind to see what is around you.

Who, me?

The Media is going bonkers over the McCain line and the follow up line about POW’s.

After watching the Interview, the “captured” comment was something that Trump should have clarified immediately.

We’ll see how the story progresses. The Spin Machines are running at Warp 9 as we speak and Trump had better get ahead of it before it takes on a life of its own.

Rick Perry jumped on it already, but he is a Putz anyway.
