AMEN to post 59!
Sorry Bob, “getting ahead of the curve...” is doublespeak for capitulation. You are recommending surrender in advance of a fight. The government may regulate me so it’s better to voluntarily submit to the subjugation?
Me too. Walked off a restaurant job were the supervisor had me clocking in/out every time the seats emptied out a little. The night were I clocked in/out 6 times in one 4 hour period was enough for me. This was in the 70’s. Unfair?Yep!
Went on to own my own business with 50 full time employees who never had their hours messed with. it was my advantage over the idiots like my ex-super.
No way should the guber mint be involved.
Fine, have it your way. Then they’ll be a Federal Workers Rights Bill that will cost the cr*p out of everybody when it could have been avoided. When a worker can’t come in to work, the employer expects a phone call. So would the same consideration kill ya’? I’m just asking. By treating others like YOU would want to be treated shouldn’t be that much of an inconvenience. I’m wanting to keep Big Government out of this.
Nope. You are simply using the threat of big government to get the same outcome. If you don’t like the way your employer treats you or runs his business then find another job.
If you can’t find another job then be thankful you have the one you do.
I won’t treat anyone that way and won’t tolerate being treated that way. But the government has no right to do this which should end the debate there.
Yep, that'll boost employment alright! NOT!!!
Wait'll they see the "unintended consequences" of this one should it come to pass.
Government is opiate of the Left.
When a politician says the word “Fair” or any word derived from it, hide your wallet.
How long before the government dictates which hand, and how much toilet paper you can use while wiping your a$$?
I have a friend who has this kind of arrangement with a big retail store that is part of a huge corporation. It was all she could get. It is simply one of the bottom rungs of the employment ladder. She is a conservative and I’m sure she is happy to have this work, difficult though it makes getting together with people since you never know when you’ll be needed at work. It helps the store’s bottom line because they don’t have to keep more sales help at the store than needed.
She is not whining about it. I would do the same if I had to.
The point you make and how you make it needs to be emphasized for people here who think government meddling is all right if done by “conservatives.” It is government meddling at every level that has made starting and maintaining a business so difficult and jobs so scarce that it has permanently become an “employers market.” Anti-competitive big businesses, labor unions and the politicians they own love it.
Big Government Conservatives. Oxymoron. Bill Bennet, Bushes, McCain, Huxster, Dole, Cheney, etc... Their only gripe with government is that they are not running it.
Many on this forum would not hesitate to tax, regulate, and spend us to oblivion so long as it was “conservative”. Just look at comments on Social Security, defense spending, and free trade.
