Extermination of mass forcible conversion to Christianity are the viable alternatives for the non Moslem West. Spain showed the way in and after 1492. They deported, killed, or converted all their Moslems. The converted ones were not converted in their hearts but that is irrelevant. Their descendants grew up either Christian or without religion. The first generations mostly retained the old religion but knew not to show it, not to make war on the conquering society, and their descendants were more and more part of the new society. The Spanish error was in including Jews in the ban.
