Cruz Campaign: Fundraising Reports Show Cruz in the Lead

HOUSTON, Texas — Today, the Cruz for President campaign released data for the most recent fundraising period. The reports show Ted Cruz ahead of almost all other candidates in several important categories.

“Three months ago, if someone had said Ted Cruz would be beating the field in hard money and second only to Jeb Bush in super PAC money, most of the political chattering class would have never believed you,” said Campaign Manger Jeff Roe, “Yet, here we are with Cruz in the lead and the most well-funded conservative in the race.”

The full text of the memo is below:

MEMORANDUM
DATE: JULY 16, 2015
FROM: JEFF ROE, CAMPAIGN MAMNAGER, CRUZ FOR PRESIDENT
TO: POLITICAL REPORTERS
RE: CRUZ’S FUNDRAISING SUCCESS

With the release of each presidential campaign’s second quarter fundraising and expenditure data, it is clear the Ted Cruz for President campaign is well positioned against the other candidates. Ted Cruz raised more “hard money” than any other Republican in the race, including Jeb Bush; he has built a fundraising infrastructure that will sustain the campaign for the long-term; and he has shown the ability raise money all across the country, receiving donations in nearly half the all the zip codes in America.

Highlights from Cruz’s fundraising success:

You don’t just wake up with 175,000 contributions. What we are seeing is a combination of widespread, enthusiastic grassroots support for Ted Cruz coupled with a sophisticated, data-driven fundraising operation. Three months ago, if someone had said Ted Cruz would be beating the field in hard money and second only to Jeb Bush in super PAC money, most of the political chattering class would have never believed you. Yet, here we are with Cruz in the lead and the most well-funded conservative in the race.

We know that people are ready for change and ready to support the campaign that represents change. Cruz has said that since the beginning of the campaign and we now have the data to prove it.

I think this validates what I’ve been saying for months....Cruz is the leader among those paying the most attention and among those who care the most (altho Trump is doing great with those two crowds now too).

I think this fundraising depth, strength and breadth validates that notion.

Reinvested nearly three out of every four dollars (72 percent) spent on furthering fundraising efforts...

Is this typical? Took in $51 mil, and now has $14 mil to show for it because $37 mil was used to fundraise?

FR is trying now to raise $88k. Perhaps it should really try to raise $400k by spending $312k of the money raised on fundraising.

"•Attracted more than 175,000 contributions"

I've made three so far and I've got the bumper sticker on my car.

I agree with that, but that’s respectfully not the point of this article nor was it my point.

My point, again, is that I never worried about some low poll numbers for Cruz...because I knew in my gut that he was winning among the most informed and the most involved....and this is evidence that I was right.

Ask Majority Leader Cantor about the importance of fundraising.

Oh, wait...

The article is confusingly written. First, It is the SuperPac, not Cruz' campaign, that raised the 37 million, with Cruz raising $14 million. Coincidentally, the %'s are close to 72%.

Cruz has NOT spent all of his $14 million, but 72% of what he HAS spent has gone into more fund-raising. It is too early to spend it on a TV ad campaign or full page ad buys or a huge web campaign. All he has to pay for right now is travel, staff and communications expenses, besides the fund-raising dough. The SuperPAC money, as of now, is in another sphere altogether.

We need someone from the NYT to vet this, since it’s possible that he is tops on this list due to some fictitious bulk donations.

Thanks for your clarification. It was poorly written, but you broke it down nicely.

The two - Cruz and Trump - are not necessarily mutually exclusive... I think those two might have a few tricks up their sleeve...
