NASA has released the first images taken during New Horizons historic flyby of dwarf planet Pluto.(This is an excerpt).

My understanding is it takes 9 hours for one message cycle to and from New Horizons.
It’s going to take 16 months just for the info from today.
I think I see Uranus just to the right of the 50 mile line...
With all the lunacy in Washington, it’s nice to know America can still do one or two things right.
Criswell (narrating) “Perhaps on your way home, someone will pass you in the dark, and you will never know it ... because they were from outer space.”
Plan 9 From Outer Space
That’s an incredibly well done special effect for its time.
And the movie was a rich source for Star Trek ideas.
I had to go back and look. Wish I hadn’t.
I read the article and I am curious as always...Are we seeing raw or enhanced imaging? I love the NASA image of the day with all the enhancements and color imagery added, but being the science nerd I am... I prefer raw data. At least NASA is doing something besides global warming these days..
So Pluto is a planet again? Or maybe a binary planet system..
Super cool mountains.
NASA’s data is always heavily edited to conform with general theories and public expectations.
It’s actually methane ice.

Having watched the NASA briefing yesterday, a small point, but a big one, was that Pluto has NO impact craters, but Charon does.
Another point was that Charon looks something like Saturn’s small moon Encaladus, and is also geologically active, as is Pluto.
The huge chasm on Charon is awesome. I wonder what caused it.
