LOL! Some, yes...
I don’t think you’re missing much...as you know there were 3 major Crusades, and these might have had a small part in reducing their numbers, but the Black Death likely had a larger effect.
I believe their DNA was Euro; but blam is the expert on this.
Thanks for that clarification. But I’m still confused. Did the 12 tribes freely intermarry? Or did they tend more toward toward seeking marriage within their own tribe? My impression is that cousin-marriage was favored but I don’t grasp the implications of that.
No. They're all descended through Abraham, Isaac & Jacob, but start branching out through the 12 sons of Jacob.
;-]
With the MSM there’s no limit to the number of targets, eh? Headlines write the jokes for you.
No I mean I wasn’t including the earlier Crusades that might have affected the Sephardic Jews in Spain and Portugal, I was thinking Rhineland Jews would be of the Ashkenazis variety but according to this study they apparently didn’t exist back then (in 1096). Anyone have a link to the scientific paper, I’m also curious as to what statistical sampling methods were used.
I realize this may be a stupid question, but I know so little....
An earlier study says mitrochondrial DNA shows that the earliest female Ashkenazis were primarily of Euro origin, with the male side being Jewish origin.
for the misunderstanding. Got it; but according to the seemingly complete article in wiki here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashkenazi_Jews, they arose in the early medieval period in the 5th to 10th century.
Tribes have pretty freely intermarried for 2,500 years or so, that’s for sure.
...While many have the idea that all Jews now are descendants of only two and a half tribes, the truth is that when the ten tribes were captured and sent into exile, a tenth of their population remained. As the prophet Amos proclaims, For so said the Lordd: The city that gives forth a thousand shall remain with a hundred, and the one that gives forth a hundred shall remain with ten, of the house of Israel.
...Jeremiah was on a divine mission to the ten tribes, and in fact he actually gathered them up and returned them to Israel, where Josiah ruled over them.
This, however, does not mean that the prophet Jeremiah returned all of the exiles. Rather, he gathered only some people of the ten tribes who had managed to escape while being led into exile. They then joined the rest of the Jewish nation and are included in their history...
The tribes of the North became known as "The Lost Tribes", but there were members of the tribes that lived and did business in the South that didn't get carted off. There numbers were greatly diminished of course, but God always preserves a remnant of Jews.
Thanks for the link, jjotto. Very interesting.
As an Ashkenazi, I’m a genetic time bomb. My mother died of breast cancer, so I worry about myself (so far, so good). Nowadays lots of us go for genetic screening before marriage.
If she was diagnosed before age 50, your genes should be looked at for the BRCA mutations. If she was diagnosed later in life, you needn’t be overly concerned.
This contradicts other genetic studies I have read.
One study says that about 50% of Europeans are descended from a man in Northern Pakistan 45,000 years ago and made their way to Europe via Russia. The other 50% are from relatives of the same man who made their way to Europe via the Middle East a thousand years later.
So..........
The Ashkenazi Jews have the hightest IQ of all others in the world.....80% of the Jewish immigrants to the USA are the Ashkenazi variety.
That 128 must be a very inbred group.
Every person has two ancestors; and 600-800 years ago is roughly 30 generations. Those 128 should have had 2^30, or 1,073,741,824, discrete ancestors living at that time; 350 is a branchless family tree. *<];-’)
Jews (Safardi) took a big hit prior to 1492 when Jews who would not convert were expelled from Spain, mostly to north Africa. Then there was the great plague which decimated Europe between 600 and 800 years ago. If Jews were condemned to ghettos and very poor villages they may have died in greater quantities than the Christians because of more rats and poorer nutrition. How did Jews feel about cats as pets?
...and yet they mostly vote Democrat?!?
No, James wrote his letter to the 12 tribes scattered abroad. Separate then, separate now. The stick was broken under Solomon, it will be reunited under the King of kings soon.
