Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson admitted Tuesday that the administration goofed in releasing an illegal immigrant to sanctuary city San Francisco ahead of a shocking murder earlier this month, but said there’s little the government can do to pressure sanctuary communities to change their minds.

Facing lawmakers for the first time since the slaying of Kathryn Steinle, a 32-year-old killed while out walking with her father, Mr. Johnson said he’s made personal appeals to San Francisco to rethink its refusal to let police cooperate with federal immigration agents, and will try again in the wake of the killing.

Let's get this straight: States like Texas have no right to border check illegals coming across as it is the fed's exclusive domain, yet the feds have zero control over the cities that harbor illegals?

Are we really supposed to be that stupid in your mind Mr JOhnson?

If I am President, i arrest every single mayor of every single “sanctuary city” for violation of federal law. “Very little control” my ass.

Federalism is great when it supports a liberal agenda. Otherwise, Big Government is in your face, screwing with you relentlessly.

“Are we really supposed to be that stupid in your mind Mr. Johnson?”

It’s that tyranny thing that the Founding Fathers spoke about and it’s just as intolerable now as it was then.

IMHO

Funny how the sacred “Law of the Land” suddenly isn’t when dealing with liberal jurisdictions.

Great!

Let’s create Sanctuary Cities for Unborn Babies!

For Heterosexual (only) Marriage!

For Freedom of Association (and dis-association)!

This bureaucrat (probably inadvertently) makes a great point about the federal regulation monster.

Even as big as Fedgov is, it’s basically impotent without local cooperation. The whole house of cards would come tumbling down if we just stopped allowing them to control us.

2 Section 642(b) of IIRIRA further provides that, notwithstanding any other provision of federal, state or local law, “no person or agency may prohibit, or in any way restrict, a Federal, State, or local government entity” from sending information about an individual’s immigration status, lawful or unlawful, to the INS, from maintaining such information, or from exchanging such information with any other federal, state, or local government entity. See 8 U.S.C. 1373(b) (Supp. III 1997).

(The IIRIRA is Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act. Signed by Bill Clinton )

Are our elected officials on drugs lately (last 7 years) or are they just drinking too much of the koolaid? Maybe its the stuffed envelopes but there seems to be no common sense in most of them anymore.

Just saw a SF council woman say this murder is a gun control problem. “People like that shouldn’t have access to guns.”

This is more evidence of the liberal disconnect to reality and facts. Or, more likely that liberals have a short circuited reasoning process, or maybe they are mentally ill.

DHS chief Jeh Johnson says "Sanctuary cities are beyond federal control"....

So, where is all the tax money that you yourself earmarked in the DHS budget for that purpose, Jeh?

Have you and Obama got a few fat offshore accounts somewhere?

OK—so by this “logic” can towns, counties, even states declare themselves “Traditional Marriage Sanctuaries”?

Homeland Security seeks $41.2 billion budget for 2016
February 4, 2015 6:30 AM By BioPrepWatch Reports

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson announced a $41.2 billion budget request Monday for the 2016 fiscal year.

The budget would improve the unity of effort at the department, Johnson said, focusing on “harmonizing DHS business processes.” Along with the budget, a new Common Appropriations Structure was also submitted to Congress, which would standardize financial planning, programming and budgets for all DH agencies, Johnson said.

There are five areas the department focuses on each year, and the budget is in alignment with those five missions, Johnson said.

<><> The first mission is to prevent terrorism and enhance security in the country by implementing security for the land, air and at sea.

<><> The nextDHS mission is to secure and manage the country’s borders, and reduce the number of illegal immigrants and amount of contraband getting into the United States.

<><> The third DHS mission includes enforcing and administering immigration laws and providing safe and secure detention of illegal immigrants in federal custody if they are a flight risk or a public safety concern.

<><> The fourth mission deals with safeguarding and securing cyberspace, which impacts economic security. The 2016 budget would invest in technology and staff to reduce cybercrime and improve the security of federal network defenses.

<><> The fifth mission, Johnson said, is to strengthen national preparedness and resilience so the country can prepare and respond to any type of disaster.

Jeh Johnson said “The President’s FY 2016 Budget provides the resources necessary for the Department of Homeland Security to further strengthen our efforts to fulfill our wide-ranging missions, while also being agile and vigilant in the face of ever-evolving threats and recent world events. But prior to acting on the FY 2016 Budget, I urge Congress to fully fund DHS for the rest of this fiscal year, as the current continuing resolution is disruptive, creates uncertainty, and impedes efficient resource planning and execution.”

So they can cut off federal funds to any community that doesn’t build low income housing in affluent neighborhoods but they can’t for ones violating immigration law. yeah right.

Yeah, because the federal government DOESN’T provide ANY money to the city of Gay Francisco, which they could withhold for flouting federal law.
