The economic genius of the USA is the borderless nature of the sovereign states. Workers, products, services and money are able to move with relatively few obstacles. This is one of the things that makes the US strong.

Suburbs were cheaper to do business than cities. So the market moved to the suburbs. Right-to-work_low-tax states attracted the market from high-tax states.

Opening the border to Mexico and Canada is similar. It makes for a stronger N America.

Curiously, the same people who oppose open immigration also opppose jobs going to Mexico... and Asia. The reality of the marketplace is that open immigration reduces jobs leaving. And closed immigration pushes more jobs to leave.

Mexico and Canada are sovereign nations, they are not on our side, they are on their own side. States have allegiance to the United States as a whole, they all fly the same flag and will come together to defend the whole. You cannot treat other sovereign countries like States!

If your model works, what do you suppose would happen if you moved your house into the inner city and left your door open and unguarded 24/7?

I lived in Chicago’s inner city ‘64 - ‘82 (except when in the Army) when crime was higher than now. I never, ever locked my door, not to my car, not to my house.

Not much happened to me. The worst event: I parked 3 doors from the cops sitting infront of Mayor Daley’s house and ran to a neighbor’s door for my work. When I returned to my car, my camera was gone. Everyone who knows Chicago cops knows who took my camera.

Twice my life was saved by concealed carry by an illegal Mexican immigrant.

A lot happened in the inner city; but not to me. I was in a changing neighborhood. The teen age street gang that was mostly white (a few dark Puerto Ricans) murdered 7 people on my block in the year I returned from ‘Nam.

Well spintreebob, I live in the city now, and around here believe me pal, they would see you coming a mile away!

When I first moved in, for a few weeks people would sneak up on my porch, try the door, and then run for it. No “welcome to the neighborhood” baskets were in evidence, let’s just say ;)

Things are better now, the neighborhood is moving in the direction of owner occupied, and black, white, green, or purple, doesn’t matter because you are all on the same page. Kinda the same with temporary workers on visas vs fellow citizens.

I’m now in the inner city of Atlanta (near Braves baseball stadium). It is totally different from Chicago. Chicago white Democrats who control not just politics but the Chicago culture are much more “racist” and hostile to Chicago Blacks than anything in Atlanta.

Atlanta, for the most part, is much more laid back and less hostile. That makes a big difference in a lot of things.

Interesting, apparently Atlanta overall has violent crime about one and a half times of what Chicago does. Atlanta must have a better PR team!

Of course Oakland has them both beat by quite a lot!
