Why Labor Hates Walker, in Three Charts
Washington Post ^ | July 13, 2015 | Philip Bump

....[SNIP]....

Labor unions rely on density for two reasons. First, unions need monthly dues in order to be able to pay organizers and staff. The more members, the more dues, the more organizing. Second, the more unions that exist in a region, the easier it is to organize. That's because more union employers usually means smaller disparities between the wages paid by different businesses -- meaning less incentive to oppose organizing drives. That's why New York state has the highest union membership rate in the country: New York City's high union density makes it easier to organize.

Again, half of the country's union members work in government. That's high density. Public-sector employee unions work hard -- and spend heavily -- to support elected officials that support their organizing efforts.

And that's why Walker gives labor such conniptions. He demonstrated that unions could be beaten -- and that even in a state that twice backed Barack Obama, he didn't pay a political price for it. Walker has made his defeat of the unions a core part of his pitch to conservative voters. So far, he's running with the front of the pack."

The Audacity to Win

".......In this modern age of hyperpartisan combat, no one running has consistently succeeded when fighting for conservative principles the way Walker has. Actually fighting and winning conservative fights is what voters are hungry for. That’s why Walker used the word “win” six times...."

We have a self described Socialist and an honest to God Conservative running this year. I’ll trust Americans to choose correctly.

When I read the daily anti-Walker articles in our local leftist rag, the La Crosse Tribune, I am always struck by the hatred and bile in the reader comments. The leftists really, really hate Walker, so he must be doing something right.

The same is true of Trump and Cruz. The leftists hate them with a passion they reserve for only those who threaten them.

The entire article is dishonest. Union bosses and paid union activists hate Walker. Workers do not.

Previous union members are better off. People didn’t “join” unions. They were required to become members and dues were deducted from their pay as a condition of employment. They had no choice in the matter.

What Gov. Walker did was allow public sector employees to have the choice whether or not to belong to the union and have dues confiscated from their pay checks. Many felt the union bosses did not provide value for their dues and chose to quit. They are happy with governor Walker and do not “hate” him as the article claims.

I think the actual reason labor hates him is an important tool for him to use. The question is when. If I were him I would do a 5-10 minute paid commercial, with associates 30 sec ads, detailing exactly what was going on in Wiwconsin with the unions.

By "denying unions collective bargaining" Walker was letting unions keep collective bargaining, but denying them the ability to fill union coffers from taxpayer funds.

That will be a winner with all but the most virulent union hacks.

Besides, what does it say about our politics when unions major membership remains only in government?
